How do you guys get and keep your skin soft on your face?
Mine is like dry and itchy.

You definitely to start using a good moisturizer, i like olay daily renewal cream, and exfoliate your face at least two times a day with a face wash scrub for sensitive skin since you have some dry patches that should help ( =

I recently heard this great tip on 'what not to wear'. The makeup artist said that you could use sugar to exfoliate your skin. I tried it and it works great! You just gently rub sugar all over your face for a few minutes. It sounds weird but it works! The next morning your skin may look flakier than ever. You just need to take a wet washcloth, and rub it on your skin in circles to get all the dead skin off.

It may seem kinda pointless. Like- why would you want to give yourself more dead/flaky skin? But it's healthy for that skin to come off. It'll make your skin much smoother! I did it for a week or two, and I don't have near as much dry skin as I used to. :)

Also- a great moisturizer is important. I've tried SOOO many different things, and I finally found something that worked last summer. It's this stuff called prescriptives comfort lotion. It's like $40 and it is most definitely worth it. Don't let anyone tell you to just get a cheaper version, because it won't be the same. I usually go for the generic/cheap stuff, but not with lotion. This expensive lotion has made a HUGE difference for me.

I'm not saying that particular brand will be right for you, but expensive lotion can definitely make a difference (depending on how bad your skin is of course).

DERMALOGICA is the awnser!! That is if you dont mind spending a fair bit of money, but it sure is worth it!! They will do a free skin mapping for you and perscribe exactly the right products for you.. You either have dry or combo skin. But for a fact dermalogica products can solve all skin problems...

You need a very gentle face wash thats pH balance, dermalogica has some in their range otherwise I reccomend Cetaphil which is pretty cheap.
You also need a good moisturizer that wont make you break out. AGAIN cetaphil is great great great for dry itchy sensitive skin. Or dermalogica.

Go on the dermalogica website.
www.dermalogica.com and then find the website for your country and on there you can find a dermalogica salon in your area where you can get free advise.

Also once your using the right cleanser, a calming toner and a good moisturizer you might want to look for a very gentle exfoliator to help with flakyness...

Also check out the Cetaphil website.
Its either www.cetaphil.com or www.cetaphil.com.au

Good luck

exfoliate!
i had that problem so i bought some exfoliating scrub and used it whilst in the shower, it's worked wonders!
then moisturise when you get out whilst your skins still a little damp :)

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, exfoliate (don't need to exfoliate everyday) and moisturize. I use Dove Essential Nutrients. It has an SPF 15 as well.(although many moisturizers these days do)

When you exfoliate with sugar, do you add water?

Yeah, I suppose I should have clarified that! I splash water on my face beforehand. That also gets my hands wet of course. So I pour some sugar on my hands while they're kinda wet, and scrub.

It actually feels pretty good.

Ugh, I don't believe in lotions. Its just not natural. NO MATTER how natural they are, the idea of covering your face with cream is unnatural. I used to (stupidly) eat a lot of sweets and had rough-ish skin plus acne. I started drinking a shitload of water. Now I have no acne, and soft skin.

Drink A LOT of water. Fish oil supplements, overall eat a lot of fruit.

So you don't use lotion or makeup at all?

When you think about it, most of what we use isn't "natural". Shampoo, conditioner, the food we eat (unless you grow it/kill it yourself), waxing our eyebrows, soap, cleaning chemicals, medicine, the water we drink, etc. I could go on forever...

I use a recepy of a bunch of different products mixed together...it workes really well for me, and if you want the recepy I'll give it to you, but I have oily-normal skin, it'll probably dry you out more.

I have always had really dry/itchy skin as well and have spent hundreds of dollars on all sorts of skin care products over the years. Not one of them worked/works, so I've sort of just quit using any products period nowadays. I just rinse my face with water. :ehwell:

But for my body, I like to use a homemade body scrub (I know it sounds weird/gross, but it's made from extra virgin olive oil mixed with sugar) two or three times a week while in the shower and it works absolute wonders. My skin is always super soft and silky afterwards, and the grains in the sugar help slough off all of the excess dead skin. And then I like to moisturize with Neutrogena body oil, which keeps my skin soft for days.

But I haven't found a good moisturizer/scrub/etc. for my face yet...I've been looking, but my skin is super sensitive and has reacted badly to everything I have used (even the super gentle products that are meant for extra sensitive skin).

And Amen on the drinking plenty of water. Excersise, fresh, healthy, non-proccessed foods, and lot's of fluids should keep your skin nice and clear. OH, and sauna's! They may be hard to get to/find, but just going to one for like an hour or so a few times a week does absolute wonders. It helps flush the toxins from your body and makes your skin super clear and glowing (they also help if you're looking to lose weight, as well). I love them. :D

you dont have to spend loads and loads on creams, you can find inexpensive ones in just like boots or somthing, just look for creams for dry skin/ excema. i used E45,which for a tube was like £1.50, moisturise like twice a day, after youve washed your face or come out of the shower. its not always an instant fix but keep it up and the dry patches dissappear and your face becomes smooth in general. just dont give up! trust me it worked for me and my skin was nooot good!

The shampoo we use is this weird brand that doesn't use chemicals... or something. I don't wax, I pluck. I don't wear makeup. We try to have everything organic. I can't help what water I drink, so.

Medicine, well, I use herbal remedies for the little things that most people would take pills for. But I do have to take pills daily. And it makes me feel extremely guilty.

You can get organic and natural moisturisers.
