The 16-year-old will be reprising his role as Jacob Black in "New Moon," the
sequel to last year's smash hit "Twilight."

Because the character of Jacob ages 10 years and grows much bigger and stronger in the sequel, there were concerns that Taylor wouldn't have the physical stature to carry off the part. However, director Chris Weitz confirmed the casting news in a blog post: "I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in 'New Moon' and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and [series scribe] Stephenie Meyer."

Meyer also lent her support, proclaiming, "He is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year."

In order to prepare for the part, Taylor's been hitting the gym and trying to gain 19 pounds of muscle. Plus, he's only 16, which means he's still growing.

Along with his stature, Taylor's role will grow as well. "New Moon" revolves
around Jacob's relationship with Bella (Kristen Stewart), which comes to a head when Edward (Robert Pattinson) returns.

Taylor's not the only one whose had to make some physical adjustments for the next film. Pattinson told Britain's OK! Magazine that he's dreading having to wear colored contact lenses again.

"It was like I constantly had sand in my eyes," he complained. "I wore them for three months constantly, and my eyes never, ever accepted them. It was frustrating because normally your eyes are saying something, but if you have two orange blobs in your face it's so annoying."

Oh the sacrifices stars have to make!

--- Like I said before...He's gotta hit the gym or take mad steroids, oh..and grow a few feet!

I'm glad they decided on him, but I'm also disappointed. He played Jacob Black in Twilight and to not have him play the part to the end just wouldn't be right. But on the other hand I like Michael better. At least this whole thing is done with.

I'm glad they kept the same person, the other guy they were considering was like 30 years old and really ugly

I was so relieved.
Michael Copon had such an ego about it..

I don't even know why they would consider taking him out of the movie anyway. If they can make Brad Pitt look 10 years younger and older in The Curious Case of Ben Buttons then I'm sure they could edit Taylor to make him bigger. Plus, make-up and stuff. That was dumb.
