So my A6 is in dire need of some new tires and I am torn as to what to get. Right now I am tossing it up between the General Altimax HP (http://*******.com/68lfcd) and the Continental ContiExtreme Contact (http://*******.com/yoxsxm). Now the Generals are highly rated and available cheap locally, but seeing as they're a "Grand Touring" tire, I am not sure how they compare to the Continentals which are all-seasons.

I've never used either of these brands before. The tires I used on my Grand Am were Bridgestone Potenza G009's which while excellent, were very expensive and I would like to get away from spending $120+ per tire. And actually the General tires I can have 4 of them installed locally for $409.

It snows here, and when it's not snowing it's cold and wet. So I need something that's prime in icy conditions. Also yes, it is a Quattro.

There are two factors to consider when choosing a TYRE.
1) Longevity
2) Grip.

Now, since you should change your tyres every 5 years anyway, regardless of remaining tread, consider how many miles you are going to do.
If it were a classic car doing 1000 miles a year, you would obviously buy the "grippyest" tyres avaliable which sacrifice longevity.
If it's a rep mobile doing 60k a year then you will sacrifice some degree of performance in exchange for many extra miles of service.

Think about what you want the tyre to do and then go with the brand that is more closely matched to your needs.

Helpful advice? My first post in the thread broke down the crux of the issue.

I see what you are trying imply, however you couldn't be further off the mark. To be frank, 1 JV is worth 500 of you. Especially when your idea of a reliable cooling system is pissing cold water over the radiator. What a prat!

It's not my fault if you're too stupid to see the pearls of wisdom contained in my vitriolic postings.

And your opinion is worth a billion Rob's and Altimas :p. Well now that we've tossed each other off, guess we'll get down to business.

I've pretty much decided on the Generals. Reviews are good and they're pretty highly recommended around the interspheres. It'll be nice to have some tires with some grip and comfort. Then my suspension will be arriving some time in December :).

Most posts on here are not of a technical sort but more just opinions and and BS. That was what I was implying. She gave me no technical reason as to why it wouldn't work or any help on the subject so why should I try and help her. Not that she is stupid, I know she is quite intellegent. Also I do not recall saying that spraying cold water on a radiator was a "reliable" cooling system. Again learn to read before throwing out insults.

So you knowingly advocate an unreliable system then?
That makes you even more of a prat since the excuse of ignorance no longer applies.

the GY eagle GT is $92/tire and has higher tire ratings all around than the general and continental, plus is cheaper

Right because any old tires will do on snow and ice. Okay tell me how you $25 a piece tires do and I will stick with my Potenza G019's.

This topic is old and should be re-locked since TeenSpot lost thier forum database. It's nice to see the admins are as retarded as most of the user base "ONCE A MONTH BACKUP IS GOOD RIGHT?!".
