She listens to you arguing every night
Just after you've kissed her goodnight
She sits up in bed, her ear pressed to the door
She listens hard.
These words you say...she knows they're bad
From the tone in which you speak them
Though she is yet to know what they mean.
A tear slides down her cheek,
As she hears a sudden thump,
As she hears her mother weep.
She lets out a sob
And lies down...her fingers in her ears.
She is yet to find out
You cannot block out your fears.
Just after you've kissed her goodnight
She sits up in bed, her ear pressed to the door
She listens hard.
These words you say...she knows they're bad
From the tone in which you speak them
Though she is yet to know what they mean.
A tear slides down her cheek,
As she hears a sudden thump,
As she hears her mother weep.
She lets out a sob
And lies down...her fingers in her ears.
She is yet to find out
You cannot block out your fears.
