the soundtrack made me laugh, funny lyrics :D the movie was cute, not like epic or anything, but a realistic view of what would happen if a girl like her got pregnant without making it overdramatic, plus i love ellen pages character lol..so witty and just says whatevers on her mind

This movie just made me angry. The whole non-reunion with Bateman and Cera was disappointing and the movie was just pretentious and trying way too hard to be "witty, fresh, and something we haven't seen in a long time". Plus Ellen Page seems to be exactly the same in all the movies I have seen her, she is always the witty young school-girl with the most annoying voice since Bart Simpson. Granted she is pretty, but in a childish way and I have no doubt that she will be type-cast because of her looks and voice (esp. her height!)

How was it overrated?

There wasn't much to it. She got knocked up and she visited the parents of the baby a few times and the dad decides at the last second he doesnt want to be a father. The girl and her ackward friend end up I guess falling in love?

Lame movie. Not much to it. Not enough info. No drama or actual action in the movie at all.

It made me laugh and I think its really cute... good soundtrack, all that good stuff. I just thought some of the dialogue was really forced, especially when Juno calls her best friend Lizzy to tell her she's pregnant, and she's not surprised at all, just play off each other in really staged, cutesy talk, which is just unrealistic. My best friend told me she was pregnant after, like 11 years of friendship, and even I was like, FUCK, dude.

This movie was very overrated.

The dialogue was forced and unrealistic.

The trick to writing good dialogue is to have your characters say something that seems natural. You have to have them say something more interesting than what the average person says on the fly, but do it in a way that doesn't seem outrageous or absurd.

This movie failed in this respect.
For example:
ROLLO
So what's the prognosis, Fertile
Myrtle? Minus or plus?

JUNO
(examining stick)
I don't know. It's not... seasoned
yet. Wait. Huh. Yeah, there's that
pink plus sign again. God, it's
unholy.

She shakes the stick desperately in an attempt to skew the
results. Shake. Shake. Nothing.

ROLLO
That ain't no Etch-a-Sketch. This is
one doodle that can't be undid,
homeskillet.
This is a completely absurd exchange of dialogue between these two characters. Witty, yes, but overly done.
An uneducated 30something male wouldn't have that sort of wit. If he did, he'd probably be writing shitty screenplays.

Juno is derivative of most indie coming of age/teen comedy-drama flicks, punctuated sparsely with witticisms and clever dialogue that makes the characters seem unnatural.

An example of good script writing would be most of the Coen brother's works. Laconic and to the point. For example, Fargo or No Country For Old Men.

An example of how dialogue worked in NCFOM; Chigurh tells the old man he pulls over in Act 1 to "hold still" as he puts the cattle killing device to the mans forehead. He ejects the piston and the man crumples to the ground, dead before he hits dirt.
In the next scene, Moss is hunting in the arid desert plains. He says to the deer in his rifle scope, "Hold still." He fires and fights the sight back down, catches the action unfolding. A miss, a leg shot. The animal recoils and takes off swiftly with the rest of the pack.
This is a comparison of the value of animal life for the protagonist versus the value of all life for the antagonist, who is personified evil in it's worst form.
An excellent movie, which deserved the awards it received.

Juno was a bad movie, and I couldn't even finish watching the whole thing.
My brother's girlfriend thought it was the most beautiful thing she'd ever watched.
She also thinks "America's Next Top Model" was an amazing show.
Go figure.

I liked this movie despite it being overrated.
When movies are overrated I hate it, but this I can deal with.

Love the soundtrack, too.
