I've no idea if anyone's posted anything on this movie, there's nothing on the first page that I can see and I'm not trawling through pages and pages of shit.

I just wondered what people thought of it?

I was kinda disappointed, picked it up in the pub on dvd for a few quid a few weeks back. It's a good copy, the film was alright... It's just the singing, for me, made me want to cry. It was depressingly boring, I was hoping for more story, more of the dark and sinister shit, not two blokes singing before one cuts the others throat and puts him in a pie.

you know, it is a MUSICAL....so you should expect more singing than action

It's a broadway musical... not a horror film... were you not aware?

the majority of the story is in the lyrics. Pay attention and you'll understand the overall show a lot better.

I have seen the musical live and the movie didnt live up to it :(

I thought it was better than the stage production of it, now isn't that strange..

It's my favourite film of all time. I liked neither Depp nor Burton, nor had I even heard of that one who plays Lovett. Now I have the soundtrack readily available for when I'm feeling murderous..

The third time we went to see it (it was raining a lot when it first came out, we had nowhere else to go, and the cinema is cheap enough), there were little knackers sitting all along our row (like at least 15 or 16 of them all together); they obviously hadn't bargained on it being a musical. Based on their inability to shut the fuck up. They left before the throat-slitting. What a waste of their money. *sighs*

I liked the movie infinitely better than the live performance.

One of my favorite movies.

That would be a bugger; 18 is really old. I've been going to the cinema with friends as a means of not having to go to the pub since 2 years ago.. dunno what we woulda done in that scenario really. Probably taken hard drugs. :)

no considering its nice going to the damn theater and not having to listen to a bunch of middle school skanks giggle, flirt, call people, yell across the theater, stand up and fight, and what not...i get to go a theater, watch a movie with my friends, and not have to worry about going to jail for threatening a minor to hang her by her toes with her own shoelaces

I was coerced into going to this movie by a female acquaintance knowing only that the movie was directed by Tim Burton (I hate him), a musical (I hate them) and the title was "Sweeney Todd" (I hate how lame that name sounds). I've since upgraded her to friend status, and I fucking loved the film from start to finish.

I recently just watched it,
My friend gave me a copy of it.
He like you have to watch it, its amazing.
I hated it.
Totally hated it.
Johnny Depp was of course gorgeous but it just wasnt enough to make it a good movie/story.
The singing was good and the music was beautiful though.

I have alot to say.

It was depressingly boring, I was hoping for more story, more of the dark and sinister shit, not two blokes singing before one cuts the others throat and puts him in a pie.

The point of the whole production doesn't have anything to do with "sinister shit." See the play. It's better.

...So...curious. Why did you hate it?

When I first heard of Sweeney Todd the movie and saw the previews I was extremely excited to the point where I was counting down days until it came out. Usually when I get excited about a movie, I expect way too much and get let down. This movie lived up to my expectations, and I wasn't disappointed in the least. I cannot wait to buy it. It was such a fantastic movie.

I just didn't like the story, I thought it was dumb.
I may have a biased opinion though because I really dislike being scared, and I couldn't sleep the night I watched it because I was terrified I would have dreams about people being cooked into pies. Also I had one of the songs stuck in my head until 3 in the morning.
Thats about all, I can see why some people would like it, Its just not my style of movie.

The play is better, hands down. If you ever get the opportunity to see a professional production of it (NOT a high school or community performance. Colleges would be good, though), jump on the opportunity. Its Sondheim at its best.
