hii all (:
okay, so i bought this hair dye a long time agoo, ( well not THAT long ago )
and i cant return it, and im being forced to use it
although i want my colour to be darker than the dye usually makes it
my mom tells me to leave the dye in longer, and it will be darker..
is this true ?
how else could i make the dye darker ?

That's the only way I know.
What color is your hair, and how much darker than the dye do you want it? A little darker, or a lot darker?
Cut off a small chunk of hair from somewhere on your head where no one will notice it's gone... then put dye on it and see how long it takes to get to the desired color you want.
That's about all you can do, short of buying new dye... which would be your best bet. I mean, I'd throw it away or give it to a friend and buy a new box in the right shade.

Well, that depends. If it's a dark color, then it'll go darker the longer you leave it in. If it's a light color, then it'll go lighter the longer you leave it in. At least....that's if my memory serves me well.

Pretty much, yeah. The color should be intensified if you leave it in longer. I don't think you should leave it in toooo long though, that might be bad.

I don't know. Leave it on for a few hours and see what happens?
All I'm saying is, you're putting chemicals in your hair. And leaving those chemicals on your hair for too long ISN'T GOOD.

Try it out on a section underneath first.
I usually leave mine on for about 40 minutes, when the box says to leave it on for 20 or so. I wouldn't leave it on that long without trying it out first, though.
It gets dark quick. :/

how long does it say on the box? if it only takes like 15 minutes to go from blonde to the brown color then don't leave it in for more than 5-10 minutes extra because the chemicals are stronger.. if it says like 45 minutes or something then and hour or an hour & 15 minutes should be fine

Quick question: What brand and shade is the dye, and is it permanent or semi-permanent?
Victoriiaaa
01-01-2008, 11:07 PM
well im dyeing my hair from a medium brown to (hopefully) a dark rich brown
the box says about 15 mins i think.
and
the shade is " medium brown " or " light ash brown "
the brand is Claroil Hydrence
and the dye is permanent .

Don't take chances if it's permanent.
Definitely cut a section of hair and try it out for maybe 40 minutes. There should be instructions in the box on how to do this... it's called a strand test. I always do it before using a new shade.
I use Clairol, too, but the Natural Instincts semi-perm, so I don't know about the permanent kind.

well, im willing to take my chances,
after all
i'm pretty sure my hair would look fine no matter what happened.. haha .

Okay, but stay near the shower in case your hair/scalp starts burning like a motherfucker.

Why?
You've gotten answers. You've already said you basically don't care what happens.
Probably everyone assumes you're going to do what you've already stated you were going to do: leave it on for an hour+ and take your chances.

well i jsut wanted to know why my head would burn if i left it in :S
Faerielight
01-02-2008, 01:16 AM
Um. Well...
Hair dye = chemicals.
Chemicals + people ≠ fun times.
 You may not be sensitive to the chemicals in the hair dye, and your head might not burn. But you could be hypersensitive to the dye. Or, leaving it on for an hour might be long enough to cause you to have a reaction.
Particularly with permanent dye, leaving the chemicals on for longer than the recommended time is, well, not recommended.

Because that's what happens when you leave hair dye in too long. DUH.

i've left hair dye in for a really long time before with like a red,
nothing happened.
although it was semi perminate .
Faerielight

Semi-permanent dyes, as far as I know, are not NEARLY as bad for your hair as permanent dyes.
I use semi-perm, as I said, and I leave my particular shade on for about 40 minutes. The package recommends 20, I think.

Do it. Then report back.
I'm just saying.....BE PREPARED FOR THE BURN.
But seriously, do it, I wonder if it will start burning.

yeah you can leave it in longer, but it will only get so dark. it usually shows on the box what it will look like. it also depends what color your hair is now. just read the box!

It's not gonna get that much darker. And it's not good to leave it for too long, chemicals are not only bad for your hair, but they are bad for your body.
