I'm taking a day off from school and I was thinking of getting my nails done. Is it overrated?

i used to have gel nails. the only part that's lame is keeping them up. it gets expensive after a lil bit.

Yeah, I heard that keeping them up gets annoying after a while.

Any other thoughts?

um ... they hurt like a bitch if you get them caught somewhere. i didn't really like how thick they were. and then when you take them off, your nails are very weak & floppy.

if you get them done well they are good but once they are taken off your nails are horrible!!

maybe try the glue on ones? you can get some really good ones.

I think they look nice as long as you don't get them too long. I used to have them and the only bad point was, like people have said, keeping them up, and also when you take them offf your nails feel really weak and are pretty horrible.

Also if you do get them i recommend you sk for white tips, because sometimes they give you clear tips and paint them white. And this isn't very good cos the white tends to chip easily.

I think square nails are cheap and nasty looking.

Do you really want to look like trailer trash?

I used to get acrylic nails done all the time but then I switched to getting gels. I don't think it's overrated, I think they look really nice and well kept up. Plus if you get sick of the white tips you can always get them painted whatever color you want. They are a pain in the ass to keep up with, but I can't stand my real nails... I used to bite my nails all the time and they looked terrible. Be sure to get them at a good managable length so they don't get in the way with anything.

I love them. This threads reminded me I need to get mine redone. :) Anyways they aren't overrated at all but I suggest getting gels I've never gotten them but I hear they are wayyyy better for your nails. But if you do stick with the regular acrylic ones don't just get them done once and never again for awhile. I've done that before, and lost my entire nails like that. When they come off your natural nails are like paper thin. So they rip and tear easily for about 3-4 weeks after getting them removed.

i dont need them, i could use my nails as toothpicks they rule
i dont mind people who have them as long as they don't have pooh bear or palm trees on them.

Those are tacky. I saw this lady preparing my food for me at a restaurant once. The whole time I was thinking 'omg one is going to break off into my food!' Long ones are just to much.

i hate acrylic nails. i used to get them put on for dances and stuff but i couldn't keep them because of cheerleading. you can't do anything when you have them on (at least i couldn't, it doesn't bother some people). plus it looks so much nicer when you let your real nails grow out and get manicures. it's cheaper too. acrylic ruins your natural nails!

The nails you posted are Really UGLY. If you're going to get your nails done, make sure you keep it natural..

if you want a french mani, grow your nails and do it naturally. solid colour? keep your nails short

it disgusts me how many things about some girls are fake, nails, nose, boobs, hair, eyes, even skin colour (self tanners).. nuts i tell you.

I think they look horrible. And what's the use of getting them? Everyone knows their fake!

Seriously. Just grow out your nails. That's what I did, and when they get long enough, paint the tips white. I do mine black. :)

meh anyway, fake nails drive me nuts (maybe because my job involves a lot of manual labor), i always naw them off days afer i get the, so when i do go for fake nails, just get the cheap plastic ones or get it done at he local school of cosmotology for $15

I think it's too common. It's nice though, but maybe more shorter. The longer they are, the more whory they look.

I think they're hideously lame. I despise them and I despise people who wear them.

I could understand if you get them for a special occasion or something.. But just for daily wear is fucking pathetic.

the fake nails i was thinking about are a little shorter than the ones i posted, and prettier. they have a similar pattern to a japansese kimono. they're really pretty- but i've never done them before and wanted to know what people thought.

I don't like them. When I was little my cousin would get those and she used to take her nails and stick them in my nose and in my ear when I wasn't paying attention. And she still does. She pretty much scarred me for life with those damn things. Besides I have naturally long nails so I don't need them. Never got them, never will.

i've never had my nails done but i had some glue on's in 6th grade and i hated them. Honestly i like my real nails, all i do is get a good manicure and polish and it's only like 10 bucks or i coul just do it myself. More convienient for me too

I love them. Ive had them forever. Ew well not these exact ones haha i get new ones but ive worn fake nails for so long, im used to them and they never get in the way, they feel natural. Theyre pretty long too but theyre just french manicure not those big curved ones.

And my nails arent damaged even slightly, theyre perfect.

So dont listen to people when they say they always damage natural nails

They can be Tacky.
Square Ones especially, and if your gonna get Fake ones,
Get GEL ones, otherwise when you have them taken off they pull off half the nail with them
Be sure to get ones that Look classy, and Not cheep ones you could have brought from any old shopping center.

i just got them for the first time, like, last week. shorter white tips. i like them. my natural nails always break and i bite them and stuff, so yeah. im now worried about whats going to happen when they come off ...

but yeah, the long weird ones are tacky/stupid, but im fine with what i have.

Get the gel thats what i always get ..their hard to come off so they last a long time

Okay. First of all they are not disgusting in my opinion, they look very sophisticated if done right. Short is probably the best way to go, long will look a little too flashy, be careful they damage your nails and WILL NOT come off unless pried off you wait for them to grow off or have them removed at the salon which will cost you about 10 dollars.
