Ok, Here is a real question, looking for a real answer, not an answer like, 'why are you using a Sun Blade 100, that is @!#$$ use a Windows Vista system'. If you have a real answer, or some thoughts please post them.

Just got my hands on a Sun Blade 100. It has a password set on the boot prom (Openboot, openprom, what ever you want to refer to it as), the boot process is set to boot from Hard drive A, Hard Drive B, and then NET Boot.

When you attempt to enter any commands at the Openboot prompt, it asks for a password. This stops you from booting from CD-Rom/DVD, or from running any other commands.

Have installed a clean Hard Drive (no primaries, logical, mbr, etc), and was able to install Gnu/Linux over the network. This was completed by installing tftp and rarp services/daemons on another Gnu/Linux system, entered the boot address, etc which allowed the system to be booted.

Once Gnu/Linux was installed, I was able to access the Openprom in a few ways. First, I am able to run the eeprom command to display the settings, as well as mount openpromfs. When I attempt to change the settings using eeprom, it appears to take effect, but when the system is reboot, the settings changed were not saved.

My Question is, using eeprom, or anything else, how I can reset or clear the password on the Openprom? or save the changes made with eeprom under Gnu/Linux.

System info - Sun Blade 100, OpenBoot 4.0

I'm guessing you "inherited" this system from someone, so all I can suggest is if you can get in contact with its previous administrator to get the password from them. I guess that all depends on how you obtained it, who you obtained it from, and if they are still alive/around/available.

try taking out the cmos battery for 5-10 minutes.

Thank you for the replies. The system was given to me by a used computer store which has 125 of these systems. All of the systems have the same issue. They had them for over a year, and is unable to clear the passwords.

The store owner gave me one with hopes I could clear the password. I've gotten further then they did, at least I can run eeprom and display/change the settings just not save them yet.

I've taken out the power supply, on some models of Suns this will clear the password. I've found the docs for clearing password for everything but the Sun Blade 100.

I will remove the battery and see what happens. The cost of a new eeprom for the Sun Blade 100 is more then what the system is worth.
