For those of you who don't know, the upcoming movie Get Smart is based on the '60s television series created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry.

So why is Mel Brooks not writing and/or directing the film adaptation?

Does anybody know?

I have only heard of this TV series, but new adaptations are rarely written/directed by the original people.

Also, Mel has been busy with YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN the MUSICAL. After the success of The Producers, he's pulling out another. It premiers on Broadway in October

I wish I lived in NYC, or at least would be visiting to see this. Young Frankenstein's my favorite Brooks movie.
