I just pierced my own ear cartilage(on the left side.. i had three professionally done on that side already, and have four on the other side that i did myself last year.. so now they match).. and i also did my septum! I wasn't sure if i'd work up the nerve to do my septum or not... but i gave it a shot. It hurt more than i thought it would, but not as much as some people make it out to be(it wasn't like "being punched in the face")... But i took it really slow, to make sure i kept it in the "sweet spot"... and it's not 100% straight, but it's good enough.. you wouldn't really be able to tell without close inspection. and my eyes watered like craaaazy. but, yeah.. i only had 16g needles and rings, so i did it at 16.. and i'll stretch it up to 14 after it heals, since that seems to be the standard size. I put a circular barbell(horseshoe) with little spikes on the end into it. I'm wearing it flipped up now, because i'm not going to let my parents find out about it.. Might tell my sister. The cartilage bled A LOT.. because when i was trying to get the ring through, i accidentally pulled the needle through too far, and then i had to try to get the ring in without the needle to guide it(and the cartilage is in kind of an awkward spot for doing all of this).. but after i got the ring in and cleaned everything off, it stopped bleeding. The septum, suprisingly, didn't bleed a drop. i got the ring through right behind the needle and that was that. my septum doesn't even hurt now.. It just feels strange having a ring INSIDE my nose.... i just did it less than 15 minutes ago. my cartilage is starting to get a little sore, though.. but not that bad.
Note: I don't condone most people doing DIY piercings.. but i got sterilized piercing needles, did my research, and have enough piercings already(this makes 19 now) that i know how the procedure goes and how to take care of them. I just made this board to share my experience... because i'm excited, want to tell people(since i can't tell mom, or she'd freak.. i only told her about the ear) and still have kind of a "high" from it.
