I stopped watching TV a year ago, and it is working fine for me. I recommend it doing the same. I know for a fact that I am not missing anything because every time I turn it on to see what's going on in the news, it is always the same. The same annoying shows and stupid plots. The same garbage polluting creative minds with pointless nonsense. The reality shows are not even reality. Nobody acts the same in real life as they would with national cameras following them. Anyway, I could type forever about all the different shit that you watch on tv, but I'm just gonna say this and end the ranting that nobody is probably reading. lol

G'day.

I agree with you for the most part. There are very few shows that I'll watch.

I agree with you...i stop watching t.v. for a couple months now.. on the news it's either, a kid bring a gun to school, a soilder dying in iraq, a community issue..and so on...not that they are not important but it's the same bull over and over

Television is utterly pointless.

"Nobody acts the same in real life as they would with national cameras following them."
Absolutely right. Think about it for a minute, almost every show has the same general idea within its own category. For example; the shows CSI and Law and Order, very similar plots. Yet completely unrealistic. The very career they portray as being so 'badass' with their little uniforms, going in and catching the criminal in a half hours time. Please. Anyway, done with rambling and such.

TV is no more pointless than anything else in life. People watch it because they find it entertaining, not because it gives their lives meaning.

STFU, Go away, end of thread. :D

For the most part, I agree.

Most television is shit. But the same shit that is found on the television can be found on the internet and in books. It has a purpose sometimes and at other times it is worthless. That's how most everything in our existence is.

I still watch tv but I'm tempted to quit. Too many commercials and repetition.

Failure.I didn't contradict myself and what is there to back up. In fact, you need to back up your statement that I'm a 'stereotypical media slave' simply because I watch TV.

Again I say, STFU.

TV is kinda cool. My only problem is that I can't sit down and watch something for a long time. I like watching Nickelodeon sometimes though. And generally I only watch stuff on my computer that I downloaded or wrestling.
I don't watch much real TV though. I may watch an hour a month or something, unless my laptop ain't working. And I've been like that for a couple of years now.

I very rarely watch TV. If I'm bored and it's the only option (for example, if I'm at my grandparent's), I'll see if their's any movies on, and if their are none, then I'll settle with a good episode of CSI.

What I will sometimes do is rent whole season's of one TV show at a time, I've done it with CSI, and I'm currently doing it with Grey's Anatomy. It's quite a different experience then watching like an episode a week. Oh yea, I also did it with Sex and the City, though I watched the entire series in like 2 weeks :P

Nah, there are some good TV shows out there. I watch the discovery channel and A&E. There are some things that I would have NEVER known about or learned about that I now find fascinating from watching those two channels. If anything, I feel like I have gained from watching TV.

You just have to watch the right channels.

TV is like my guilty pleasure.. I know it's rotting my brain but it's as if it has this hypnotic effect on me. I have a few favourite shows, i.e. Gilmore Girls, Grey's, the Daily Show and I also watch discovery civilization, the biography channel, jeopardy. It's not all bad, you just have to know how to cut through the crap. :)

although, I did hear that your brain is more active while asleep than while watching tv. Says a alot, doesn't it?

I actually prefer TV to movies because there's more time to develop the characters. After a few episodes of a really good TV show with great characters, you start to "fall in love" with them, in a sense. My favorite shows of all time happen to be Buffy, Angel, Oz, 24, LOST and The Office.

I cut back on my TV watching over a year ago. That was a good move because I've been more productive since I did it. I spend more time writing, reading, playing music, hanging out with friends, etc.

I still watch some TV shows every now and then. It's a good way to wind down while still being entertained. You just need to catch the good shows. Also, TV comedies can provide some quick laughs if you need them.

your an idiot.

Stare at that really hard for a moment and you'll notice the irony.

I kid though, don't yell at me.

I very rarely watch TV. If I'm bored and it's the only option (for example, if I'm at my grandparent's), I'll see if there's any movies on.

The same applies for me too, pretty much. It's not because there aren't any worthwhile shows out there (I'm sure there are some); I just don't have the time for it. And even when I do have some free time, I rather be on my comp than sitting in the living room watching whatever mediocre show's available at the time.

I actually prefer TV to movies because there's more time to develop the characters.
Although I usually opt to watch movies before watching TV, Vodka makes a good point. I rarely feel any sort of genuine attachment towards characters in movies; usually because the relationships are so implausibly forced due to the time restrictions of the film.

I'm currently doing that with a show called The 4400.

I don't watch that much television, the commercials annoy the shit out of me, and most of the plots are the same thing over and over again. But some of it is quite interesting.

Agree 100 percent. I've gotten to the point where I refuse to watch TV anymore, even for reruns of the shows I do like. Considering that there's only three shows I've ever really enjoyed (Buffy, The Simpsons, and Family Guy), and none of them are really putting out new episodes anymore, getting the DVD collections makes much more sense.

There are only a few primetime shows I enjoy, and unless you count some Discovery Channel stuff, there is nothing but pure shit on television.

It's sad, really.

I watch TV, but I'm not one of those people who have to be home at a certain time to watch the new episode of whatever crap comedy is on. The only shows that I like to watch weekly are the reality shows on Bravo like Project Runway. I really like fashion, and it has more depth than something like Flavor of Love. But besides that, I really only watch whatever's on depending on how bored I am, and I watch anime on my computer most of the time anyway. Cartoons > life.

yea i stoped watching tv a long time ago too. i think i havent watched tv for 3 monts. the media is stupid. they took away all the good shows and now force lies into your heads. the news lie to you. the chiledrens tv shows are nice and jolly now they are no longer grim and funny. i mean what was the problem with invader zim or rocko's modern life. they were great shows. i think tv can just kiss my ass. i hate it. oh and mtv. oh sweet jesus! music goes in your ears not in your eyes. and they no longer play any good music. where are the indie bands? and why do you have to wake up at 8 o'clock in the damn morning to watch videos and not even good videos. COME ON! what is wrong with AMERICA?!!!!!
