i dont know if anyone experience this one but when i started film school, im starting to watch movies in a different point of view and sometimes it really bugs me. I'm naming the shot sizes and the camera moves. does anyone encountered this? i dont know if this helps me in a good way or a bad way....

Shouldn't film school teach you to take this kind of edge on perspectiveness anyway? I'm not a film student myself, but I do try to be very passionate when it comes to film. Any bizarre, beautiful, etc. shots in cinematography only add to credible value. Many famous directors are greatly known for their camera techniques.
Acknowledging them will only help you out all the more.

I studied film and I do it all the time. But like Kobrakai, I don't see why it's such a bad thing. I was watching A History Of Violence yesterday, and it visually stunned me. It was made better because I saw that Cronenberg knew what he was doing. That can't be bad?

i guess it's natural. But as the years go by, you start to internalize that knowledge and it becomes second nature as opposed to something that you have to consciously think about all the time.

I used to, but it stoped. Unless I actually need to do it. Or if they make it to obvious in which case I'll bitch about shit directing. *Coughs*George Lucas*cough*

it's definitely not a bad thing, i'm a social science student and love how my outlook on life is changing with everything i learn but have never studied film so have no idea how anyone could be "stunned by A History of Violence" i went to the cinema to watch it and left feeling disappointed so enjoy using the knowledge you've got, it's part of what makes you "you" !!
check out my favourite website and have a giggle rather than studying all the time!! :D

Tangent:
A History of Violence, in my opinion, is brilliant. Apart from the storyline, which I like the idea of, there is a lot of wonderful shot composition, brilliant acting, brilliant editing, brilliant score, etc. I don't know. It's great/

I'm going to film school in a couple years. I'm planning on becoming a movie director. I already watch movies from a "film students" standpoint. Always aware of the camera work, always LISTENING to the soundtrack and how it coincides with the picture. Always paying attention to backround details. I notice in a movie about 5 times more than the people around me, upon first viewing.

I took a film studies class last semester and since then I've been seeing movies in a different point of view.
I like it though because now I can see the differences in directors and how certain shots enhancce the film. I think its cool.

I do that but I'd like to believe it has helped be seperate great movies from good movies from ok movies.
I appreciate them in ways I didn't before film class.
