Hi guys, Im currently doing an advertising campaign in my media course and am in need of some primary research. I was hoping that you could probably help me by taking 5 minutes and answering these questions. It would be greatly appreciated.

I am advertising a UK based chain of stores called topshop and topman.

5- Where would you expect to see adverts for this type of company?(certain magazines/websites/newspapers) Maybe a small add in The Guardian newspaper, certainly on most teen fashion/chat sites.

6- What elements would you expect to see in the advert? (clothes from the shop? Pretty models? Exotic locations etc) For male clothing usually a Male of about 32, who is in good shape, clean shaven etc wearing certain items of clothing. Also there should be some sort of Tagline or something to catch the viewers attention. The price should be in there aswell. The location doesn't really matter, when I have seen adverts for clothing such as this it is usually shot in a white room with no distractions from the items. It may be a family orrientated advert, with the idea behind it being that by buying the product you are buying the lifestyle presented in the advert.

7- What sort of model would draw you into the advert? (young? Size 0?) I'm 18 so anything from my age upwards. He would have to be in good shape, an obese man wearing clothing isn't going to make me think anything positive about the company.

8- Do you pay attention to magazine adverts? It really depends on what magazine it is and how it is presented.

6- Do you take notice of tv adverts that advertise fashion brands/stores? Only adverts advertising Menswear, although the female models are pretty nice, so I'll watch them occasionally :D

7- What channels would usually show adverts for fashion brands/stores? I think mainly it's BBC 2 I see these adverts, occasionally Channel 4.

10- At what time of the day would you expect to see them on tv? In the evening, between adverts in the news so it would be viewed by a large majority of the Middle Class population.

11- How long would you expect an advert to be before you lost interest? 30-45 seconds, any more than that and you're just expecting the same as what has just been advertised.

Hope this was of some help. I also study media so I hope something I have said makes sense.

I'm not sure I'll be much help, but here you go:

1- Are you male or female? Female

5- Where would you expect to see adverts for this type of company?(certain magazines/websites/newspapers) Hum, fashion magazines as you mentioned, basically most magazines that are directed at the female part of the population if it's women's clothing that's being advertised.
6- What elements would you expect to see in the advert? (clothes from the shop? Pretty models? Exotic locations etc) Clothes, if you're going for a realistic advertisement then not stunningly pretty/hot models but some who look like real people. Still good looking real people for aesthetic purposes but with the average type body that flatters the clothing but makes it seem that regular people can look good in those clothes as well.
7- What sort of model would draw you into the advert? (young? Size 0?) Appropriately aged for the fashion, I'd prefer to see more models with sizes above a 0, perhaps in the size 3 range because I think that it can be off-putting to see the clothes on an incredibly skinny person and find them attractive, giving the idea that those clothes only look good on certain people with model type bodies.
8- Do you pay attention to magazine adverts? I do not read magazines.

7- What channels would usually show adverts for fashion brands/stores? I have no idea, though I would assume not channels directed towards the male audience so probably fewer sports channels, and also probably not channels like "Space", or "Discovery". When I watch TV, it tends to be channels like that and I don't give a damn about advertisements. And I'd recommend times (if this is possible) around programs that will draw the attention of your decided audience.
10- At what time of the day would you expect to see them on tv? As I said, around programs that will have the attention of your audience.
11- How long would you expect an advert to be before you lost interest? I don't particularly watch television and when I do I generally turn the volume off and converse through the ads but around 20 seconds or so? I believe 20-30 seconds is average for a commercial nowadays.

7- What sort of model would draw you into the advert? (young? Size 0?) something different to the normal skinny young models
