Who is your favorite film director and why? What are some of the films they've directed?

Also, what is your favorite scene from a movie?

Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy, Angel, Firefly and the upcoming Wonderwoman film.

I love the connection he makes with his cast, and his script writing skills. He can take majorly overused plots (vampires and vampire hunters) and turn it into something completely new and different (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel the series).

Gus Van Sant.

He directed films like 'My Own Private Idaho, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues and Drugstore Cowboy.' Why? Because he directed some of my favorite films. I watched a documentry on Gus Van Sant and his methods, idea towards the cast and his films were very thought out and interesting.

My favorite scene from a movie would be the junkyard scene in Stand by Me.

Hmm... My fav scene from a film would probably be in The Nightmare Before Christmas. Either the fight between Jack and Oogie Boogie or the final scene between Jack and Sally. I love that song.

Director:

Martin Scorsese - why? Well, he's bloody awesome (ignoring that patch in the 80s). A true auteur with love for the craft of film-making. His ability has not decreased over the years as he's shown with the more recent films he's done (Gangs of New York, Bringing Out The Dead, The Departed) and his relations with certain scriptwriters is astounding, especially Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, Bringing Out The Dead)

There is no reason not to like Scorsese. The man is awesome.

Scene - it took me long enough to pick a fucking director.
