View Full Version : So H&M opened a week or so ago in Kuwait and it...

sucked crap. The sizes were too large and I found XS like a regular small in European stores. The pants were cut in a way that is unflattering for someone with a petite figure, or so I found. The prices were rather cheap, so that was a plus, but the problem is there's nothing actually worth buying there. Granted they had some nice accessories, but that was about it.
Being someone that mainly buys from European stores, H&M was my first actual American store since I developed a fashion sense. Question: are all American stores' size actually bigger than the generally accepted one? And, why the hell are all the pants cut like that when they're supposed to be low rise jeans?

Meh, H&M works fine for me. I'm a medium in shirts at every store I've shopped at. My pant size varies from store to store though. Generally, I'm 31x30.

Odd, I--as well as some friends--found the sizes very noticeably larger than general European stores.

Yeah, I think H&M pants generally suck. Their underwear and accessories are awesome though.

Their pants...ugh. Terrible. Having looked at their online catalogue and seeing thier advertisements, I expected it to be awesome when H&M opened in my nearest mall, but I was extremely disappointed. Their clothes did seem a bit bigger than other stores, to me, as well, but I couldn't really compare most of our stores to European stores because I haven't been to a European store, and I wear small sizes, so it might not make a big difference anyway.
EDIT: I agree, I LOVE their underwear. It's adorable.

Err, I have never noticed. I am pretty tall and take medium sizes. I do love that store though. I bought a winter jacket from there yesterday since it is getting soo cold.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I think I've got my answer, H&M sucks in general, I wasn't being critical or anything.
Edit: You should've seen all the advertisements here, they were practically everywhere and you could hear Madonna on the radio all the time promoting the store. It was a huge disapointment for me when I actually entered, I expected a lot better.

I think H&M is ok. They have a few nice things. I've never bought jeans there though. And I really like their accessories and underwear, as has been said. I got a really cute pair of snoopy pyjamas there

Same here! I was mostly frustrated because none of the pants I tried on fit...it's hard enough for me to find pants, anyway because I have very long, thin legs, but even for a normal store, they were bad. It seemed like they were only made for girls with a huge bottom. But, my cousin who works there told me that the same pants could be made differently store-by-store. Overall, too inconsistent for me. I'll stick with dELiA's pants--those rock.

I don't shop there much, because of the size things. Sucks for me because there was the most adorable shirt there for like, 30 dollars! And it didn't fit me=(

We don't have the store here. :(
Yes, out of curiosity, were the pants cut unflattering in terms that the space between the zipper and the bottom were too large? >.<

Retreat to Zara, Mango, and Stradivarious for that stuff. At least their sizes make sense.
But anything nice and if you're willing to pay more than 30 dollars, Vero Moda kicks ass. I get 90% of my daily/casual clothe from there.

Dude, Zara is like, the place for awesome cheap clothes. Seriously. I do usually spend a lot more on clothes, but I wanted that shirt specifically because it was featured in Bazaar. I usually don't pay much attention to H&M, honestly.

It doesn't deserve attention. -.-
I just got a few accessories because I didn't want to leave empty handed and they seemed decent.
Yes! I love Zara! They always have the most adorable things, and their pants fit perfectly. I also appreciate their prices, that way you can get everything you want. ;]

I know! I usually like a shirt and leave with one in every color, you can do that there, considering all the shirts are like, 25 dollars! And and and, they have reallly pretty dresses this season, bought like, 7 of 'em=D.

ahhhhh, I went to H&M yesterday. It sucked ASS. I expected way, wayyyyy more from it. like you said, the ads were everywhere! and I didn't like anything in the store. I expected it bigger since H&Ms are usually big. I didn't like it at all although it was crowded. I have a few cousins that go to France for the summer and they always get me H&M necklaces which are adooorabble, H&M is better outside of Kuwait. I didn't see what was the fuss about. River Island and TopShop kicks its ass.

Lol, thank god I don't know you in real life. We may show up in the same clothe multiple times, and oh how embarrassing that would be.

TopShop is alright. River Island indeed does it kick its ass. Like you said, it was WAY overrated.

As much as I go to malls, I don't own anything from Zara. :P It's always too crowded or it's about to close or the colors bore me, although I need to go there sometime..I need plain tank tops in different colors, do they have 'em? Oh and Krispy Kreme is opening in Marina Mall this year!(just thought you oughta knowww)
Evil-Empress
10-07-2006, 03:46 PM
Oy! Krisy Kreme, when this year?!
Really? Plain tank tops? They always have plain colored tank tops in store. The only negative aspect to Zara is that you may end up with something the entire country owns. Thank God I have slightly different taste seeing as I'll buy a dress a mithajbeh would wear ontop of a pair of pants as opposed to me with stalkings or just my bear legs [I'd only go slightly above the knee in Kuwait in this case] under.

I'm not sure! but I can't waiiitt. Seeing as Krispy Kreme don't make advertisements, it'll be tough to know. bah, mithajbehs wear everything nowadays. I once saw one with her neck showing and wearing clothes which she can barely breathe in..basically, there was a ''wtf'' look on my face. Kuwaitis are addicted to Zara, if I tell someone that I haven't bought anything from there, they'd faint. bas the problem is, everywhere I go nowadays, it's crowded. Half of them are guys who ''chill'' in malls, hah..yeah right. 1/2 of them are there cause of the chicks. I went to Marina around 2:30 and it was so crowded..I don't wanna know how crowded it gets at 9 pm. I also like Next..nice skirts there..but honestly, our malls have more ranges of Cafes/restaurants than stores. I seriously have never seen a country with as much restaurants as ours has.

Have no fear, I'll take you. ;]
But really, if you want, a friend and I are going shopping together sometime this weekend, we could meet up.
I never go to Marina to actually shop. I'll end up getting a few things, but unintentionally. If you must go to Marina though, take your shopping seriously and go early, around 10 AM, before all the hayleg show up.
Now, as for shopping on a regular basis. Go to Finar, it has Zara, Mango, River Island, Motivi, Stradivarious, and in front of it, within walking distance is Vero Moda and Topshop.
Aye about Kuwait's obsession with Zara and amen to the restaurant comment. I honestly think it's what's contributing to obesity rises in this country. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't love all the restuarants on Gulf Road though.

I talked about us meeting up with my mom and she wasn't too keen on it, but I'll whine and I'll see what I can do! :P . Since we have school, I can't go to 10am but I'll try when it's the weekend. I haatteee hayleg, especially the ones that come out at night..the dudes seriously make me laugh from how they dress. I went there at 10pm on a thrusday once and saw a guy wearing SEE THROUGH shorts with a shirt and a tie. that was not pleasant. Basically, I've learned my lesson never to go to Marina at night, the hayleg are everywhere, first they were at sharq, then when Marina was finished..they started going there. It's disgusting, really.

LOL! My mom won't know, and I'll be meeting you with a female friend of mine. Actually, I've never been the type to keep anything from my mom. Now that I think about it, this is a bad idea. O_o
I love hayleg hair though, especially when they flirt, because I'm usually too preoccupied starring at their hair and wondering how many tons of spray is in it to notice.
Hey, I have an idea, let's have a hayleg genocide, and rid this earth of their fashion and humanatarian crimes. ;]

rofl. Hayleg hair scares me to death. How does it stand up?! once I was leaving the Marina Cresent thing and it was so crowded and my mom kept a hold of me because she didn't want el hayleg and their oh so cheesy pick up lines..I usually just ignore them but this time, a guy came close to my ear and said he loved me, I looked at him and started laughing because of his gapped teeth and huge hair. Kuwaiti guys have no style. :sadshake: Jeez, the guys try to flirt with anything that is female. They even hit on my mom. :/ and she's almost 50.
I also find that the mit7ajbat have less taste in clothes than the ones without the 7ejab. Have you seen how the girls here wear make up!? bright yellow eye shadow, orange lips, yuck. the hayleg will rull the world one day. =P

I know how, they electricute themseleves, that's how they get long-lasting spikeness.
Lol, aww, not all Kuwaiti guys. The guys in my school and other American schools are actually quite tasteful. It's just that the haylegs are izbalet il-balad.
OMG! They don't seem to fucking understand that that defies the point of the hijab! I hate them, and I die a little every time I see them mutilating a dress by wearing huge pants under. :(

Tough to believe but true =
Mit7ajbat are wa9'7een akthar min el mo mit7ajba, I noticed an increase in the 7ejab this year but that doesn't prove a thing, it doesn't mean they're religious. I was about to punch my 13 year old cousin once, we were playing football with awlad '7alate and the ball got to him, so I went up there to get it from him and I overheard her saying '' yalla yalla! el mo mit7ajba itroo7la'' I got so pissed off, what..just because I don't wear a scarf means I'm bad and she's frickin' innocent? jeez, things like that annoy me. Anyway, to not whore this thread much(which we already did) my point is..

i found the cutest shirt at H&M and bought it even though it was huge. most of their stuff is cotton, so i stuck it in the dryer on medium/high for about 45 min to an hour and now it fits great!
but i only have like 2 things from h&m. most of their stuff isn't very great
