90% of anime is complete shit, it's only the sci-fi/cyberpunk stuff I can stand.

Hentai is hot; yaoi and yuri, doubly so.

omg@yaoi. Once I watched a dude get buttraped on a yaoi. Hahah. It was disturbing. o.O

there's a certain genre of anime series, first come to light with Trigun, they're kinda like..."rebel" anime. they dont stick of archetypes, they are slick, cool, western-culture inspired, bleeding out the ears with style and western music. these are some of the best animation has to offer, let alone anime.

some of those titles, in order of awsomeness are:

Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo
Trigun
Hellsing
and Gungrave.

Trigun was the first of them, and its nice to see this method of anime is begining to catch on with guys like Shinichiro Watanabe and even american cartoonists like Aaron Mcruder. then of course there are the great anime movies:

akira
princess mononoke
ghost in the shell
ninja Scroll

not to say traditional-style anime doesnt have some good stuff
Samurai 7
Neon Genesis
serial experiment lane

but there's way better work out there than fucking Naruto or Bleach. those shows are lame, formulaic and dorky.
