I wish I had that pole
Sliding down to someone’s rescue
Or a Dalmatian by my side
But this is real
The bell has rung
Red trucks are waiting
A house eaten by flames
Hesitant to enter
But forever moving forward
Putting every sense to work
Dodging, climbing, listening
Fears that never leave
The fire taunts my courage
Kill me it says
Quench my fury
Just try, I dare you
I juggle your life
Like a jester juggles knives
Paranoia trapped within me
The heat’s like nothing else
Your screaming makes it worse
Don’t you dare stop screaming
Drowning in relief when I see your healthy face
Clutch you in my arms
Carry you to safety
But where is your smile?
The cool air is a gift
Your eyes are dripping grief
Panicked and uneasy
Struggling to cry to me
Why am I alive?
My poor babies all alone
You left her all alone
Sliding down to someone’s rescue
Or a Dalmatian by my side
But this is real
The bell has rung
Red trucks are waiting
A house eaten by flames
Hesitant to enter
But forever moving forward
Putting every sense to work
Dodging, climbing, listening
Fears that never leave
The fire taunts my courage
Kill me it says
Quench my fury
Just try, I dare you

Like a jester juggles knives
Paranoia trapped within me

Don’t you dare stop screaming
Drowning in relief when I see your healthy face
