Do you go by whats 'in' in cosmo or do you go by what you like?
Reason as to why also.

I go by what I like I personally couldnt give 2 shits about whats in in cosmo and vogue. I buy what I like not what Im meant to like.

I go by what I like, which is often influenced by my parents etc...
I know it sounds weird, but when I was younger I realize how much I never listened to my mother when she told me what I was wearing lacked taste...I look back on it now and I see how right she was all the time.
I may disagree with her on outfits and styles of today, but if she tells me what I am wearing looks horrible on me, I listen to her.
I mean, your friends might tell you you ook great in something while your mom disagrees, and usually you end up trusting your friends thinking they know best. Your friends could just want your fashion demise.
I go by what I like and what is classic.

Hm,
Honestly, I go by both. If I like something, I'll get it. Even in fashion. Currently the only thing I like is ballet flats. Thats it. But everything else is mixed and varied.

So I guess it'd be more like a Fashion Trend < My Trend

I go by what I like. I have never looked inside a fashion mag. in my life. Of course I'm a straight male.

i love cosmo
cosmo girl ,anyway

but it's not a fashion magazine
and the regular cosmo is like all about sex

i just wear what i like but what's "in" influences that
i don't want to look like everyone else but i'm not gunna go out of my way to do that

and, after all,
The secret to creativity is learning how to hide your sources.

does anyone else think teen vogue has the most ugliest clothes ever?

i like what's in. so normally i get that.

but if i don't like it, then i won't get it no matter how many people around me wear it (like gauchos last year, and track suits a few years ago. eww)

Most new fashions are ugly.

Most new fashions are ugly.
They shouldn't even be called "fashions".

Yes, I do care what Vogue says. Then again, I am a model. And everything that's in Vogue is what I like, soooo. I wear what I like AND what is in style.

I wear a little bit of everything. Sometimes I go by what's considered "in", but other times I just dress how I feel.

Same here, I wear what's fashionable but also what I like, it's a little bit of both

me i go by to what i want,,, for me being fashionable is about how you carry yourself,, no matter how stylish your clothes are if you don't have the confidence its useless

i read the mags like cosmo, and like vogue, teen vogue.
but i dont use those to determine what i wear. if i like something and its not neccessarily whats trendy right now ill still wear it. magazines like that are merely just inspiration for me.

If I like something i'll wear it whether it's in or not, I don't mind following trends if the clothes are cute

But right now I think so many of the clothes are ugly and I don't wear them

I'm not going to lie - I feel outdated, out of touch, and irrelevant if I'm not wearing clothes that are in.

That doesn't mean I base my wardrobe completely around Women's Wear Daily and Teen Vogue but I definitely get ideas and inspiration from certain runway pieces or editorial spreads. I will usually just buy one or two things to make my outfits a little more "of the moment". (ie: a pair of waist shorts, or gladiator sandals, or a fedora hat [not that those are necessarily in right now, but you get the idea]). And don't bitch at me - I don't buy things I don't like.

I still have my own sense of style though. OBEY Propaganda T-shirts are probably not the latest thing, but I can't get enough of them. Moccasins and TOMS are still my favorite shoes. I live in Urban Outfitters vests. I still have a distinct look, you know?

The OP ranked Cosmo with Vogue? :sadshake:.
I wear what I like, if something is in and I like it I'll wear it simply because I like it. I will also continue to wear it even when it's no longer in. I use magazines for inspiration yes but I'm not going to buy something I think is ugly. For example harem pants are fashionable and I think they are disgusting I am forever seeing them in magazines but that ain't gonna make me buy a pair. Everyone follows trends to a certain extent but you don't have to follow every single trend that comes along.

She didn't really 'rank' them. In Australia Cosmopolitan shows what's in fashion, as does vogue, so it's obvious why she said them.

I agree with you, I use magazines for inspiration. Then i'll go hunting in an op shop or vintage stores, im not really into spending my hard earnt cash on designer pieces.

In the UK Cosmopolitan is more of a sex magazine than a fashion one that's why I said that but the I guess the different countries publications have different focuses.

Don't most mass retail stores imitate designer pieces anyways? I know vintage thrift shops have plenty of great things, but it's harder to go hunting down a specific piece in one of those, when you can just go to the mall and find one for cheap as well.
