Arguable. There's a definite style attached to the Punk musical genre.

Yeah, I can see your point, but what I ment was I wouldn't really call punk a trend like emo or scene or whatever we're calling it. I think it's more of a way of thinking/living and a type of music, then people like that choose to dress that way. So I don't really think growing a mohawk and wearing a leather jacket makes you a punk, more like just copying the style. But anyway I didn't decide what punk is, it's just my opinion so anyone can argue with it.

Sadly, punk really isn't anything more than a look as far as a lot of people are concerned. After years of watching it get assraped (in the same way that "emo" currently is) by people like silverpanic, the mainstream accepted this idea. It's sad, but true. Say what you want to silver, and I agree, but it's not going to change his opinion.

Yeah I'm labeled as punk but you should know what punk clothes and shit are. You sound like you want people to tell you so you can go ahead and copy them like what VanillaPolkaDot said. Get a life.

alright everyone, don't get me wrong, if anyone knows this i do. my point was that people have taken legitimate musical and cultural groups and reduced them to a fashion statement.

Punk being in fashion is arguable.
It's based off the music and it's been around quite a while.
As for emo, there is nothing related from music to clothing.
Emo is just retarded.

Actually Punk and Emo are practically one and the same as they both sprout from the same genre, they can both involve statemented music and the clothing style is a form of rebellion against the normality of society.
Punk at the moment is merely jealous that emo has found a way to connect with the masses in this day and age.
The same as eventually Punk will overtake Emo at some point in the future, possibly in the decade after this.

60's Rock N Roll At the High School Dance
70's Punk
80's Emo
90's Pop Punk
2000's Emo/Scene
2010's The next stage of punk
2020's The Next stage of Emo

Its merely a constant battle against normality and that of which is accepted in society and a battle that has been going on long before those of you who class yourself as "Emo's or Punks" that are "in the know about everything" were even born.

But wan't the original emo just a type of emotional hardcore music?
And people who listened to it got called emos?

So that means todays emo is just using that name for something completely different?

Because My Chemical Romance isn't really emo music.
Just pop rock.

I guess everyone will have there own idea of what it is because there's not exactly a book of rules you have to follow to be punk or anything saying exactly where punk come from.

I dunno I'm undecided.

Did you miss the part where I spoke about the evolution and adaption of punk and emo through the ages to reach out to each new generation?

But in essence yes thats where it started. Whats your point though?

So that would mean what was punk way back in the 70s like the sex pistols ect. is now huge fringes, slitting your wrists and listening to panic!at the disco? So what about people who are still punks more in the original style, are they just out of fashion now? So what MTV says is punk (good charlotte) is technicaly punk? even though it's the complete opposite? Basically it's fucked and the people/bands keeping it alive are wasting their time. But I still think emos aren't really punk they're just trendy kids. And it's now more of a fashion then a type of music. So real punk and punks still exsist it's just not mainstream. It's almost like there's two types of punk. But that's just what I think.

I prefer punk
I hate emo
Yet I hate the punk style
But love the emo style.

Try to understand that stereotyping is stupid, ignorant and unfair.
And Punk is actually an evolution of proto punk.

People who are punks in the more "Original style" are merely punks wearing clothes that werent socially acceptable in the 70's. All punk is real punk, its just people who seem to think that a type of music belongs to one style and one style alone that call something "not real punk".

I mostly agree with you and I can see your point but and no i didn't make up what is and what isn't, but what your saying would mean that, i dunno bad example, but coldplay are punk because a bunch of kids start saying they are? I mean there's no limits to what is and what isn't, they make rockish music so why not. Because that's what panic at the disco make and thats now "Punk". I definitly agree with you on stereotyping being stupid 'cause everyone dissagrees on where to draw the line on wheather its emo, punk, pop, anything. It's all abit stupid... if that makes no sense, sorry, I blame the time.
