Hello :).

Here is the deal, I have a very weird sense of style. It takes me forever to find something I can wear. Something I would like to wear. So basically, I have decided to try my luck at making my own clothes. I have a lot of ideas, but I know nothing of the basics. Can anyone help me with stuff like, what are the best fabrics to use for someone just starting, tips not to fail, little things to make it easier, etc.

I haev already purchased a sewing machine so I have that down haha. Thanks in advance.

practice. thats the best thing i know. make something using cheap fabric for practice till you get the hang of things

Um, I think it'd be easier to find funky neat clothes at like a thrift store of sorts, and then modify them yourself. That'd be cool.

walmart has really cheap fabric and some nice ones to as well as most craft stores sell it or fabric stores i made pj pants in my clothing design class but there 2 big and i learnt dont get stretchy fabric when u first try cause u wont get the lining right and i made a bag that was like 10 times easier i used at a book bag for the middle of the year but then it got dirty and i was to lazy to wash it so i used a store bought puse type thing but yeah dont get strechy fabric and if u use pins i forget which way there supposed to face so u dont jam the machine and read all the pattern directions if u use one before u start ummm if you dont kno how to sew i first tested my machine and stuff like with the stiches and that was fun alone lol and if the machine stops working check to make sure its threaded right first cause most of the time that was my problume. and sometimes the littlest add on can make a huge differance. start with an easy pattern first or even just try making a pillow or something with out a pattern and if u have a cat dont leave your basket with fabric out on the table with the pattern on top it equals no more pattern and cat hair on fabric. thats all i can think of now hope i helped!! :)

I've tried, I find something I like every once in a while but not always. Plus, I think being able to make my own clothes would be cool.

Wal-mart is definitely the best place to go for cheap fabric you wanna practice stitching with. They even have nice stuff too. And so what if its cheap!

Do you have a mother/father/sister/brother who sews? It would help you a lot to have some hands on teaching, somebody to go through it with.

I just kind of learned on my own through trial and error... Yeah the very first thing I made was a jean purse and it was all hand sewn.. Took me about a week. If you want here's my injury count of the event.

Stabbed on hands: 139 times
Stabbed on places other than hands: 15 times
Sewn through a finger without notice: 17 times
Places bleached other than the purse: Hands and forehead
Number of times blood drawn: 26 times

i have always wanted to make my own clothes that way no one would have the same thing as me! but im only 13 so not enough $$$ to do it yet!! buti wish you the best of luck! :D

It's really easy to make a mini out of an old pair of jeans. You just mark (with a straight lone on both sides) How short you want it to be and then cut the legs off. Then you need to carefully unpick the seams on the insides of the legs and the crotch area. Then, depending on how stretchy the material is, you may need to cut a triangle from the legs to cover the gap in the front of the jeans. You need to bend the back over so oart of it lies flat against what was the bum of the jeans. And just sew it all into place.

well. i usually get fabric at joanne. i dont really know how to sew, so im gonna take sewing classes in highschool!

I definatly recommend starting out modifying already made clothes because its much easier. Creating something from scratch takes a lot longer than you would think.
