Mayhem are IMO the progenitors of black metal as we know it today. DMDS is a must have for any metal collection. You could probably download their stuff. And Carcass is just sick. Heartwork is probably the greatest death metal album ever made. The title song is a metal classic.

There's basically nothing to do around here during the winters so you really just have three options;
1. start a band
2. play wintersports
3. kill yourself

So like 90% of all kids over 14 play in some sort of band or group.
We have tons of underground metal here.
There are a bunch of metal festivals during the winter.

HECK YEAH!! Sweden is basically the mother of metal!
Metal is actually popular around here, simply because we all play music.
There's basically nothing to do around here during the winters so you really just have three options;
1. start a band
2. play wintersports
3. kill yourself

So like 90% of all kids over 14 play in some sort of band or group.
We have tons of underground metal here.
There are a bunch of metal festivals during the winter.
My current fave underground band is Invader [http://www.invader-umea.tk/ ]

So would you say metal in Sweden is mainstream or underground? Because here in the states, pretty much any good metal is underground (numetal is the only kind thats mainstream)

In Flames was decent. They played with Zao, Trivium, and Devildriver. Not exactly a stellar lineup :/ In Flames was probably the best act. They had a LONG ass set too! Jesus Christ, they mustve gone through like 15 songs! They played some classics like Beyond Space and Moonshield, and some decent songs off of Clayman (I thought Clayman was decent, but that was the last album before they started sucking...Jester Race was UNBELIEVABLE). Too much new shit though. Otherwise they were decent.

You're one lucky motherfucker if you get to see that show :/ I wouldnt expect In Flames to play alot of their old stuff though, sorry :( Im more into Soilwork than the other three. Opeth, it will be interesting to see if theyre any good on stage

I'm more of a rocker actually, I like old swedish punk if you've ever heard that lol probably not but yeah that's more my scene.
And punk/techno/, that's the most awesome mix ever, I swear.

Out of In Flames, Opeth and Soilwork I'd prefer Soilwork too. But yeah I'm more into the melodic death metal, I like it when they balance between actual vocals and growling. I'm not into like satanism either lol [i actually once saw a band singing about killing baby jesus and eating his penis lmao that was so funny but scary at the same time]

Florida death metal is also known as brutal death metal. It focuses less on melody and more on its brutality. Death is an example, a band youve likely heard of. Some other good bands to check out (they are brutal, so you might not be enamored with them): Aborted, Decrepit Birth, Vile, Psycroptic, Severed Savior, Severe Torture, Origin, Deeds of Flesh, Cinerary. Yeah. That list should keep you busy for a while :D

Metal isnt popular here AT ALL. Its very underground, but its still a strong movement. Taste varies per person. I personally love all types, whether it be Heavy metal, Thrash, Power, Death, Black, etc etc. In Florida though (obviously) DM is popular, but Im from NY :/ I might be the biggest metalhead I know. I dont eat babies or anything though, so no need to be frightened :D
