Saw it last night, great movie.

one of the greatest films ever made, like a great album by your favorite band- the more you experience it the deeper it goes, "look closer" isn't just a tagline its an instruction, because the ammount of depth this film holds in it is unending, this is a meditation on more than beauty or lust or mid-life crisis, it's a meditation on what it means to be a human being, to feel and regain the things you lost which were once so precious to you, about death and memories and desires, loss of innocence and the hatred we all bear because of our own self-loathing for the small, pathetic people we become in the day-to-day toil of life. easily my very favorite english-spoken film.

Great Movie??

This film changed my out look on life, the sound track is awesome too, I've made several "game films" using the sound track. i think Pakx said everything about this film in that paragraph...

American Beauty... too me, a very original film

agreed i think its a bit overrated

I thought it was excellent. It has like, any problem that middle class citizens go through in it, homosexuality, child abuse, drugs, self-image, boring marriages, cheating, friendship, etc.

I thought that movie was Fu**ed up! Bogus, weird, insane, and pointless. It was a waste of my life watching that stupid movie. The only part i liked was the plastic bag flying in the wind, THAT was beautiful, but everything else was very unpleasant.

shockingly enough some people may just not like the film, no matter how much depth there is in the film/can be read into it.

I liked it, I thought kevin spacey was fantastic, the plastic bag scene though, meh. It's right on the verge of being deep and meaningful and being painfully pretentious, see sawing back and forth between them depending on what mood i'm in.
