View Full Version : Buffy making a comeback? *NOT ABOUT SEQUELS OR SPIN OFFS*

Lately I have been pondering a few things. One of them being this.
Buffy seems to be getting more popular again of late in my age group. A few examples: My friends all seem to be talking about it again, I have been seeing an increase in the Buffy based fanfics on the fan fiction sites I use, and just a few days ago on this site; the 'max no. of people on at one time' counter changed. If memory serves, that hadn’t changed in more than a year.
So is this all in my head or have you noticed this too? Opinions.
Oh and if you thought this was about sequels/spin offs to buffy then I am sorry for getting your hopes up.

YES! A Buffy thread!
Personally, I have the DVD collection (as I assume you do alanis_boy) ... but reruns are on television often. though not as much anymore. A lot of things and issues on Buffy were bridging on taboo when they first came out (ie Willow and Tara's lesbian relationship) there was a huge outcry with the kiss on television. Maybe with changing social norms Buffy is becoming a bit more accepted by the mainstream?
The DVD releases etc. could also have owners of the DVDs sharing them with friends (I've gotten a few friends into Buffy this way). And the emerging gothic/emo type kids looking for a darker show I've noticed have started displaying an interest in Buffy as well.
Side note: I hope the DON'T do a Buffy movie (other than the original of course) or some kind of reunion thing. I liked how the show ended, and any futher things would be a disappointment.

That series got shit after the end of series 3...
There were so acceptable episodes in season 4, maybe 1 in 5 and then fuck all in 6 and 7...

They have plans to make a film about Spike after angel... At least I think it is after.
they are also planning on doing something with Ripper. Based on Gile's life pre Buffy. Origanally it was going to be a TV show but I read somewhere that they are considering doing a film series on it. Either way that would be a brill thing to do.
Sorry to bump a simi old thread.

It became more about the moral story of BtVS after season 4 and less about the demons. So basicly, anyone simple minded didn't understand what was going on in Buffy.
Joss weldon's origanal idea for buffy was to take real life situations and exsplore them.
E.G.
Buffy and Angel's first time. - Losing your virginity.
Angel losing his soul - How people change after sex.
Willows addiction to magic - Drugs
Willow & Tara - Homosexuals
Willow & Oz - Trying to have a realationship with something big. (meaning Oz's werewolf-ness)
Buffy & Spike - Realationships with something bad.
Joyces death - Dealing with losing your family
Taras death making Willow go insane - How grief effects people.
Thats the best thing about buffy. It annoys me when people say stuff like what the guy I quoted said.

ARG! I really want them to do a new programme based on Buffy. Maybe something with faith. But most of the actors said they would only return if it was a movie for now.

It just became shit, the thing was always about relationships and how situations effect people... Your first 2 examples were from season 2 as was the 5th...
The series was poorly written, repetative and, on top of that, had really shit bad guys after season 4... Like it or not there has to be good demons in a show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and there just weren't, it was a below par, overly emotional drama series with low quality bad guys after 4 so what was the point? Sure it tried to deal with tough issues in modern society but it failed with flying colours...

Most of them said they wouldn't return at all, they loved doing it at the time but that time is past and they have moved on to better things...

The whole idea was about everyday life. from season 1 to season 7.
The series was poorly written, repetative and, on top of that, had really shit bad guys after season 4... shit bad guys? Lets just go through shall we...
1) Glory - hell god.
2) Sweet - The demon that sung. (OM, WF)
3) The first - the bigest, baddest, first evil
4) Willow gone bad - shows what grief can do to people.
5) The gentlemen - The guys who cut out the hearts of living people and who take their voices away so they can't even scream.
Those are five. I can think of a lot more.

Every actor/tress said they are more than willing to return if its a movie. even emma clawfield and amber burten. and their characters died.
