My dad and I were having an interesting conversation today, about overused plots on television.

What is an overused plot? Something that seems to happen on every T.V. show.

Examples:

On a show with twins, something happens to one twin, so the other takes that twin's place, but gets caught.

Someone has to be in two places at once (usually two dates).

Parents go out of town, kids throw a party, then get caught.

I'm curious to see what plots you think are overused.

Kid cheats on exam then feels really bad.
Kids break something really special to their parents.

Pretty girl falls for bad boy who is really good and saves her all the time.
Girl/Guy gets makeover to become popular or get a date with the most popular person

Switched at birth storyline.

someone gets given a wedding ring to look after and loses it.

Does overused characterization count in this debate? I know that one overused idea dealing with that is this: In a family with three kids, you have the perfect kid who always gets the good grades and knows everything about everything, you have the kid who can't take anything seriously and always makes a stupid joke about something, and you have the quiet kid who really doesn't make much of an impression on anyone.

A whole episode is based on someone getting dumped and how they are depressed.

maybe love triangles? an dthe fiance finds out about the affair on the wedding day or sumthin

girl is gunan get married but falls for sum1 else and leaves either before the wedding or right at the altar

like shows on nick at night

when ppl make out to be diff people, an get caught.
