Seriously though. Every movie commercial is basically the same. fucking. thing. the movies also all follow very strict, crappy guidelines to make it as generic as possible, it seems. What ever happened to the good ol days when movies were unique and good? seems as if either 2000's pop culture is incredibly uncreative from all the crystal meth they're smoking, or all the good ideas have already been thought up.

Quit complaining and find an arthouse theater. They're usually the ones who have the new and different films and not the cookie-cutter crap that's given to the masses. I know that there are threads in which I've shared my annoyance over the average, trite bullshit that's being produced for the average, dull-witted movie consumer, but, I, at least, at the same time go to and see foreign or experimental flicks so that instead of just complaining about it, I'm also doing something to appease my disdain for redundancy.

I know. Waking Life, Silent Hill, Come Undone, and Requiem for a Dream are so trite.
Silent Hill was pretty trite... But anyway, there are alot of good films being made, your ignorance isn't anyones problem but yours.

To me, Silent Hill was more of a filmic ode to the visual style and storytelling (although this film is no where near the quality) of the Brothers Quay than a legitimate horror film, which other horror films (and many music videos) rip-off, but this film makes the style its own (though, this could mostly be credited to the fact that they stuck fairly closely to the game). It wasn't in the least bit frightening, it just tried in vein to be very graphic at some points. It didn't strike me as your average horror film, just an ambitious but average film.
And movies in general were never quite "unique and good." Hollywood is all about finding an audience for a film, which means that they just want profitable projects. It's rare that a gem slips through the cracks.
well hollywood is far from the be-all end-all of american film, and to his credit, Speilberg's studio, Dreamworks has been responsible for most of hollywoods more recent masterpieces like American Beauty, Collateral, Road to perdition and so fourth. if he'd only fire the guy in charge of animation...

"Fire" the guy in charge of animation? This guy should be publicly executed.
Well, alright, maybe not publicly executed.
It's too bad that Spielberg's own work is simply not impressive. When I mentioned that movies were never quite that "unique and good," I should have specified that I meant Hollywood films. They can create moderately entertaining... stuff, and their reliance on genres allows more creative filmmakers to break those conventions with fascinating results. Plenty of wonderful American filmmakers are currently creating interesting work indeed, with Paul Thomas Anderson being my absolute favorite (and yes, I just ignore the fact that he worked for Saturday Night Live).
