Here's the dress (http://www.hotkiss.com/_images/products/pixl_341-51216_Black.jpg) I want to wear.
Would a lace jacket like this one (http://www.back-in-style.com/files/black-lace-bed-jacket-dolman-sleeves-5.jpg) work? I'm wearing the dress to my eighth-grade semi-formal, and I want to look classy.

Yeah, it's a really cool-looking dress. If you don't have the shoes picked out, black semi-strappy heels would looks best.

I've picked out the shoes for it. They're like an all-black version this (http://www.wetseal.com/Product/3580363810.jpg), only with thicker straps, less of a slope, and a thicker heel.

It would look good, but I think you need a bit of colour in the outfit. All black is sophisticated, but colour livens it up a bit.
Thats my opinion anyway...:)

I'd go for a coral pink shawl instead or a red one...it adds expression and color.

That lace thing is hideous tho..

Actually, I do. My school has a dress code that I need to adhere to, and my mother will be on my case if I don't.

I'v gotta frown upon the laced-up jacket thinger. :nono:
I suggest a nice leather jacket.
..LOTS ay spikes and studs. That'll do it.

no, what you need is color. the lace thing is too grandma-ish.

If you want colour.. go for a chunky bead necklace such as a baby pink or a blue.. if you want to be dressed up a meshy semi seethrough material black or silver wrap mabye? or shawl.. the patterns on the jacket you chose may clash with the loose flowing of ur dress.

1. I don't like color in my outfits.
2. I go for the old-fashioned look.
3. I hate spiked leather jackets.

Well it will probably be warm out by then depending where you live. So i wouldn't even wear a jacket. You might be dancing and get too warm. I don't know what your school is like but at mine people steal things.

Go with the lace jacket, I thought it was rather beautiful.
It'll look classy, sophisticated, and you'll look stunning.
As for the shoes, dont go to a dance in clunky heels like that.
I personally thought the whole heel thing is huge.
Maybe try shoes with a more petite heel?
Hope I helped.

Black white and nude laces are in fashion

well the jacket is absolutely adorable, and since lace is in fashion, and the most fashionable lace designs have been in black, white and nude, you should definatly go with the jacket. You may get a bit cold, but its better to be cold then hot and sweaty, anyaways im sure you'll warm up. Ive always been against strapless dresses, they squuze your bosom into a strange shape, and make them come out, but in the end its your decision.
(just a note - if your fairly round around the edges you may want to switch the jacket for a shawl, the jacket you have chosen adds empahsis to the middle regions, but if at all possible, go with the jacket.)
i'm not really a big fan of the shoe's either, your already wearing so muh black, i would recomend you get red (or maybe baby pink or something colorful and alive) heels, It would look absolutely adorable and classy. It'd also make you look more playful, if its 8th grade then you dont want to look sullen and dead. I also suggest you get something matching your shoe color for your hair. Personally, i think a rose in your hair would look amsolutely divine, and classy, as you wanted. Very classy, actually. Or maybe a red ribbonwould do it, up to you, compleatly. Oh, and if your fair sikinned the red will do marevelossly, but if your darker then some pastel colors would do fabulaously. So basically- if your fair use bright, if your darker use pastel colors.
I also suggest you dont make the mistakce of wearing a neacklace, you'll already have enough attention up there with that lace jacket, you'd just end up looking overdone.
Bracelets and rings would be just fine, as long as its pretty and simple. Remember, less is more. And if you have jewlerry, try to get it all to match, and whatever you do do not mix gold and silver jewlerry. Also, if your going to do as i suggest with the addition of color in the shoes and hair, make sure all the gems and stones in your jewlerry match too.
As for make up, if your trying to look classy, dont over do it. i cant suggest much for colors since i dont know your skin color, but i would try and look natural.
If you'd given more information (skin, eyes, hair , figure etc.) i probably would have been able to help more. but all the same, i hope i was of help.

Okay.
Skin: Medium tan, tending to be pale most of the time.
Eyes: Hazel, can turn brown or green
Hair: Dark brown, short curls
Figure: Emphasized hips, normal torso and shoulders, long legs
Thanks for the help.

If you dont like color, why dont you do a really pretty vintage denim jacket? Some denim jackets dont look casual... plus if its an eighth grade semi-formal you dont want to look like you're going to a wedding/funeral anyway. =) Hope I could help...

I love all of it! You'll look so classy. I just don't really think that the shoes are that great.. try something that's a bit more petite and feminine, like http://www.windsorstore.com/detail.cfm?Cat=10&SKUGroup=474010131&c3=64 perhaps?
I don't think you should wear anything more than a simple necklace on your neck.. some of those long dangly earrings might make you look even more elongated and draw attention off your hips.
Anyway, I think your dress and your jacket look awesome and I'm sure you'll look really elegant and classy in it!

I love the dress and jacket, but not the shoes. Go for something with a skinnier heel, either open or closed toed, and preferably backless. http://www.zappos.com/images/335/127335/57743-p.jpg
I think shoes in that style would look very sophisticated with the outfit.

If you are sewing straps, will they be wide enough so you don't have to wear a jacket?

It'll look great as long as you wear your hair up. If not, you run the risk of looking frumpalicious.

I can't wear my hair up. It's too short.

Sadly, no. They'll be about 1/2 inch wide.

Well, it's not designer brand, and after I do some alterations on it, then it won't be low quality.
