Haggis is an amateur compared to Andrew Niccol, PT Anderson and even Jeff Nathanson. Brokeback Mountain should've won the Oscar.

Crash wasnt made for some trendykid from new zealand, or some 15 year old prick who likes Sarah Michelle Gueller's acting. it was made for the people portrayed in this film to whatever degree they might be. sure these are grandios portrayals of respective character, but that's what art IS. this film isnt about race or hatred or "neato plot twists." it's about message. the story itself isnt important, it's what the story implies. now i thought that was clear in the stories telling, and Don Cheadles short monologue at the begining of the film, but i guess not. then again, people with thier heads up there asses are never gonna see the light, as the saying goes.

His screenplay follows in the same structure, plot, theme and literary devices that was used in Magnolia. I wouldn't say it's a knock off, but pretty close to being one.

It's 50/50 on the oscars. The Shawshank Redemption came out the same year Forrest Gump did. However the academy voted in favor of Forrest Gump, having it win six academy awards in total, including best picture. I loved both movies, but only one could take home the award for best picture category. Was Forrest Gump really better than the Shawshank Redemption? That has been always up to debate. However in that situation, it's up to the academy to choose. Citizen Kane, still to many as possibly the greatest film ever made, only won one oscar. That's for best screenplay. A movie like that should've won more.

Casablanca won three academy awards. Chinatown won one, suprisingly for only best screenplay. Gone With the Wind won nine oscars. All of these movies are in AFI's 100 best and still today have a profound impact on people and the movie industry together. Titanic and Lord of the Rings managed to get close to a dozen. You can see the irony. Oscars really don't mean much.

Also about the retarded name calling you were engaging in; Movies are shared universally. Somebody in China might not understand the theme in Crash, while another may. It's up to one's own vision and personality. The best movies honestly are not ones that make the oscars or other awards. They're the ones that have the most impact on us and stay in our minds forever.

Okay so for Trigger Street, it's been said before, but i'll rehiterate, stop acting like Hollywood is the be-all end-all of film, and stop citing the AFI as a credible source for film evaluation. the AFI are the nig's who choose the oscar nominee's and winners, and any time a well-liked film DOES win an oscar it's because if they didnt choose that film everyone would figure out that they're nothing more than a hollywood boys club.

I liked Crash. Most films about racism wag a finger at the white man, but this isn't really the problem we deal with, today. Yes, Crash was theatrical, and yes, Magnolia was a better film, but why hate something that tells an old message in a much more mature and interesting way than films like "Amistad."

This isn't another of those "White people hate black people, except this one guy who realizes that black people are actually A-OK. But nevermind black women. They don't exist." And what more could one ask for in a movie about this subject matter?

As far as Brokeback goes, while that's new subject matter (for Hollywood...), it's not as progressive in its approach as Crash, and is significantly more predictable.

I liked Crash too, for many reasons- but who cares? no one wants to listen! lol..
