I think it's better for people to find one thing they're really good at. There's nothing wrong with having that one good thing and a hobby, as long as their hobby doesn't take precedence over that one good thing.

I think it depends, I mean Mandy Moore is a great actress and not a bad singer, Vanessa Williams is good at both, a few others. But for every person that is good at both acting and singing you get about five that just suck at one (or both).
Also I think it's a matter of what films (or in the case of the reverse what type of albums) that the cross overs do, I mean you can hardly compare Vanessa Williams who has done some good films and good music, to Lindsey Lohan (sp?) who does fluff acting and singing.

But can she sing?

She's pretty good at singing, I think.

The only actor/singer I like is Jennifer Lopez, but only for her acting.

But I'm taking drama this year, and acting is easy. For me, singing is actually more difficult. Its not even difficult, it just takes more effort than singing. So I would suspect if there are any decent singers, they can be excellent actors.

I think there's a big difference between a pop star singing and acting then a person that stars in musicals or on broadway doing both
However I know nothing about Emmy Rosum so if she is a singer outside that movie then I am sorry

No shes not really a singer out side of acting but she is a good singer....

I don't doubt that you would have to be to be in the Phantom of the Opera I just hadn't realized that she was a career person off of Broadway (yes I know the movie wasn't on broadway but still it was the re-make of a broadway show) my mistake.

Jlo was acting before she was singing and yes I think she can act [Anaconda, Maid in Manhattan, the Wedding Planner and Monster-in-Law and many more].

As for Beyonce, no, she can't act. She is getting roles based on her singing and sex appeal. I admit, she is a damn good singer, but a horrible actress, she is just to stiff.

And Mariah Carey was in a movie called Glitter, right? Not a good movie. It was even on the brink of bad, in my opinon, and Jessica Simpson is too ditzy for my taste! But at least she didn't sing in the Dukes of Hazzards. So that was good.

Hilary Duff was an actress that became a singer and she did an amazing cross over. I don't think she is that great of a singer or an actress and I have been to one of her concerts. She's mostly annoying than anything.

Bow Wow and P.Diddy are also a couple of rappers that became actors. They did a good job. I heard that 50, Ludacris and Andre didn't do so bad either, but I can't say for sure seeing as how I haven't been to any of their movie[s]. And Eminem's 8-mile won an Oscar, didn't it? I think he was the one who won it, I'm sure.

In conclusion, some singers/rappers can become good actors, while others just don't have the talent.

Julie Andrews is an excellent example of a singer that can act.

Its really just a matter of who the singer/actor is
There are examples of people that are great at both, people that suck at one or the other, or people that suck at both. I don't really think you can say yes or no to this question

Some can, some cant. Like Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson....ect, cant act. But then there are some singers that are good actors, but VERY rarely.
