You can't tell unless you actually try it.

There is no average. Everyone is different but everyone has the ability to work at it and get stronger.

everyone is different. I'm even sure you can work at it for a while and raise that bench from 125 to 200. even staying around the same weight/age

So what should I do, like keep adding a couple pounds every week

U should vary ur exercises, dont just bench press if u do. Work everything else or ull end up out of proportion or the rest of the body will look bad. Im like 135lbs and can do around 205lbs, i havnt tried in a while though. I like working with dumbells or barbells better, especially barbells. Of couse u should add weight say 5lbs every week or so...and make sure ur technique is right.

I suggest you try 190 lbs without a spotter.

Your max is probably around 131.

I'd suggest doing 3 sets of 10 repititions with 92 pounds. If you can, try to do as many reps as you can on your last set. If the weight is too easy or you can do 10 or more reps on the last set then add 5 pounds the next time you bench press. Be sure not to bench press two days in a row and try not to use the same muscle group on consecutive days.

it depends. some ppl are born strong, then ppl like me are born weak. if you work at it you can improve a ton.

your a dumb ass foo pedroh...but i can hit it peace of cake
so anyways you should work at your bench press but also work everything else as well if you do wan't to get the best of your bench press though workout your triceps and shoulders as well for maximum bench press strength :D

no one is born strong man (unless you have somekind of muscle mutation) if someone is strong to begin with, they are probably doing something that are helping them build strength like manuel labor

some ppl are born with genes that will allow them to be naturally stronger than other ppl. same thing as athletisism. strength is just a lot easier to improve.

then that would fall around the lines of mutations which i mentioned

not really, because everyone is born with a different strength level. i'm not a genetic experts but i assume its a seperate gene. not a mutation.

Junior-17
03-22-2006, 12:14 AM
yeah i may not be either but if your genes are different then average that makes them mutated...the word mutation dosen't mean your a freak just means the gene is altered to a certain extent.

no because if you have a different hair color it doesn't mean its a mutation, its a different code in your gene. mutations are a seperate issue, less common. but oh well it doesn't really matter. the point is everyone has different strength levels :D

Some people are born with a larger frame that allow them to carry more muscle mass, and some mature more quikly (or at a faster rate than others). Yes you can be born with genetics that allow you to become stronger than most other people your age (Look at the somoans, they are fucking hudge) but everyone has the ability to become as strong as they possibly can and that is all that matters.

Ok, lets clear up on the row over "genes" providing strength. This is not necessarily true. But some people are born with immensely strong tendons. So people like 120lbs can bench like 400lbs. Its tendons not genes, you cannot be strong without certain muscles or tendons being especially strong.

Eat_Meat

Genes = Body frame, age of puberty and developement, and strength of your tendons. Being born with something means it's in your genes or it's a mutation.

That's pretty good for your weight, but not incredible.

At 14 u shuldnt be doing weight training or you will end up a short out of proportion individual wait till u r 17 then start. you can do light weight but high reps work if you want but if you go for max power you will stunt ur growth

At one time people thought that was true, but they have later found weight training has little possibility to disrupting your growth plates.

U find one sport apart from weightlifting or sumthin that reccomends young guys get into it. anyway untill u hit later stages of puberty muscles wont develop anyway so its like running up a slippery hill

I dont think ill stunt my growth and even if I do it wont be for awile and I dont even wanna be tall.

Anyways I just tried 135 pounds and I did 1 rep barely.... so thats 15 pounds above my weight i guess. Keep in mind I never really worked out with weights before I made this topic I only really did sports. My goal is 150 pounds by the end of june... well thats if I dont gain any weight which i will if im going to do 150.. so basicly 30 pounds above my weight which is double what I can do now.

You don't know much about the world of sports do you? Name for me one sport in which it is considered normal for people to only get into it after they have stopped growing.

Im not talking about not getting into the sport i am talking about trying to increase muscles power ability i.e max weights.

Please don't tell me that you think that other sports don't increase your strength, and that weights are the only way to do so.
