The Aston Martin Rapide is a concept car at the moment although it is built on an extended version of the VH platform. It would be VERY easy to tool up and put it into production.

A concept in the pipeline is a replacement for the vanquish which is being phased out of production for the american market at the end of this year / start of 07.
Production will finish completely by the end of 2007.
The proposed concept will be called the DBS ... a harking back to another part of AM's heritage.

The Lagonda rapide from the 60's was based on an extended version of the DB4 platform.

Ive missed off a heck of allot of cars but I was typing that list off the top of my head. I wasnt searching the internet. I didnt even bother listing the team cars from the 60's. Nor did I bother to mention that there were 4 engine options for the Feltham cars.

I am a genuine AM fan. :)

Incidently... AM have only ever had 7 engines in their entire range from 1914 to present day.
4 of those engines were concieved within the last 11 years.

They were as follows.

Claude Hill Pushrod 4 (lasted up untill the atom)

Tadek Marek twin cam all alloy 6 cylinder (started at 3.8 and ended up at 4.2 litres)

Tadek Marek V8 this was designed in the 50s and they actually put one in a DB5 as a test mule. It was adopted into full production in 72 in the DBS V8. this is some 15 years after marek first started designing it. That same engine was still in production up till 1999.

Jaguar derived I6 which powered early DB7's

New port pagnal V12 that started life in 1998 in the DB7 vantage

New 4.3 again jaguar derived V8.

Not allot really is it? from 1914 till 1995 AM had only ever had 4 engines!

The waiting list is currently at 3 1/2 years. IF you go down to the dealership tommorow.
Additionally, comments like:

There is no such thing as a DB7 V8 Vantage

There is a DB7 Vantage there is also a V8 Vantage.

Db7's have either 6 cylinder jaguar derived engines or the vantage spec cars have a V12. The same V12 you find in a vanquish or DB9.

Theres has NEVER been a DB7 with a V8.

I wouldnt ever have one of those though... To change the spark plugs (something that needs doing every 10 thousand miles) you need to remove, thats right REMOVE both superchargers to gain access.

This job done at AM works will take around 12 hours to complete. The typical labour rate per hour from an aston martin specialist is anywhere from £90 to £125 PER HOUR.
This is supercar servicing gentlemen where changing a set of spark plugs costs can cost over £1000 before you even buy the plugs and gaskets !

Bently and AM are vastly different

Bently make luxurious 4 door saloons as a rule that do not handle particularly well.
Aston Martin Make 2 door GT cars that both go and handle like a stabbed rat.

I tell you what, forget about buying an Aston or a bently you WONT be able to get insurance on either.

I had a word with one of my friends from the MGOC who just happens to be the owner of Lancaster insurance PLC. His name is Roche Bentley.

Apparently the fact that I have advanced driving qualifications AND the fact I have more than 2 years no claims AND I have a good drivers bonus AND I have a catagory B racing licence... I have just about got enough credibility as a driver to get insurance on a group 20 vehicle. The premium would be something in the order of £5000 per year.
You with a new drivers licence zero no claims zero advanced drivers qualifications... just dont stand a chance.

The DB9 is the most sorted car in the current line up.

The V8 is new and full of bugs and the vanquish... well thats technically still in development since they havent even made 7000.

Rapide is being put into production. Vanquish is being replaced.

The Vanquish ISNT being replaced with the Rapide at all.

The Rapide will be built on an extended version of the VH-system.
It represents a completely new segment of the market that AM are trying to get invoved in.

As of yet there is no confirmation that the rapide will go into production. AM could easily and cheaply tool up to produce it though.
If you were a member of the Aston Martin owners club you would know this.

The vanquish will be phased out in america by the end of this year and phased out alltogether by the end of 2007.
It is unlikely that the new DBS will be ready till around 2008 at the earlyest.
