From Dose, a free daily newspaper in Toronto:
Ugly people need not buy: Ever feel inadequate wearing Abercrombie & Fitch? Maybe you are. "In every school there are the cool and popular kids and... the not-so-cool kids. Candidly, we go after the cool kids," said CEO Mike Jeffries, 61, to Salon.com. "We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don't belong (in our clothes) and they can't belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely."
Heh. Turns out some kids never outgrow cliquey high school drama, they just become CEOs of fashion conglomorates.

What was said doesn't surprise me one bit.
Just look at the people that work at A&F. They all fit a certain image, and that isn't just because they wear similar outfits. All the girls are thin and pretty. All the guys are in shape and hott. They're the kind of person you would imagine being popular at their school. They have similar personalities, and often, not to offend anyone... an I'm-better-than-you attitude. Abercrombie hires people to fit their image.

That's so stupid.
A&F can kiss my ass.
Not everyone is a size 00. Honestly, there are more big people around here than small.
It makes no sense.

What of it? I want a girl out of her clothes. The brand she comes out of doesn't matter. ;/
Okay, no more chauvinistic comments. I'm not surprised by such a mentality. It's easier to target the "all-American kid with lots of friends" than to target the "introverted social outcast". If you can get the popular kid to buy the clothes, others (in theory) will follow suit in order to have a chance at being seen as acceptable. Less advertising dollars are spent that way, thus more profit.
Despite that comment, no kid's money is not good enough for A&F. It's the case with just about any corporation. He may not like the idea of certain castes wearing the clothes, but he likely doesn't mind the idea of more quarterly profit.

Wow what a dumbfuck for saying that. I do not quite think he has got down that the more people that buy their clothing the more rich they are going to get.

That's not the point though. Of course a store is going to hire people who fit the image they're trying to project. This isn't about who they hire, it's about who they want shopping there, or wearing the clothes outside the store. It's different.
I dunno, I think it's kind of amusing, because Nightwish is right, it's not like they'd turn down some kid's (or some kid's parent's) money because they're "not popular."

I actually believe that. One time I needed something more feminine looking for a concert at school and I thought they might have something. When I went into the store the sales people walked right over to someone else and asked them how their shopping was. Then they went back to the register-which to be fair is what they're supposed to do-and ignored me. I left the store without buying anything.
After reading this I know I wouldn't step foot in there again, even as a joke or to support a friend who likes them. Yes all stores have a target audience and some make it more clear than others, but they shouldn't blow people off just because they're not "hot"/"cool"/"popular"/"beautiful".

yes, that's a screwed up thing to say. but you all are just stereotyping the kids that wear Abercrombie, and that's not exactly a great thing either.
i see plenty of kids at my 'all-american' california high school that wear Abercrombie who aren't the prom queen/quarterback type. they're the kids who are overweight, in marching band, and talk about Star Wars, sitting next to me in Science class everyday. yes, the popular kids wear it too. everyone does. and nobody thinks anything of it.
they're just clothes. with some stitching of the brands name across the front. who cares what you wear? the CEO of Abercrombie apparently doesn't see who really is wearing his clothes, and frankly, as long as he's making money from it, why should he care either?
oh, and uh, high school really isn't like in the movies. not all the popular kids are stuck up bitches. they're popular for a reason....people like them.

Uh, you know, we're all in high school here.
Popular kids aren't inherently evil, but the ones at my school at least sometimes come off like they try too hard, or refuse to do anything their friends might not approve of.

I like it when people expound upon my point, which was obvious to begin with.
Nice. >.>
