For me if it is past its expiry date just one day. I wouldn't eat it

That is too much of a loss for me to fathom

It does depend on what product it is. Milk products taste horrible when too old; meat products usualy stay fresh longer than the date on the packaging.

If it smells like it should then I just sample it. If it tastes OK, then I'll eat it, no matter if it's a week too old. It really depends on many things, such as the quality of the packaging, how the storage facileties have been through transport (has it been frozen or not), etc.

There's also a small chance that you'll die from waking up every morning.

2 extra days for milk.
Juice, I toss out.
Cookies, probably a few months if it's unopened.
Chips, same with cookies.

I'm not too worried about expiry dates unless the food is more than a week too old.
The only things I worry about are milk products, and some meats. Everything else doesn't really bother me.

I forgot to mention those little bags of chips you get at halloween. I've tried eating way-past-expiry-date halloween chips and it was just... Not right...

Dairy - very paranoid
Bread/sandwiches - not at all
Meat - kinda
Processed food - probably better when it's expired anyway...

i don't drink expired milk or dairy products.

expiration dates are very, very conservative. that way, corporations are absolved of liability. if they are too liberal with their expiration dates and someone gets sick from a food that hasn't expired, they are liable.

its the same thing as tylenol. the bottle says not to consume more than 12 tylenol in day, but you're probably more than okay with 12 unless you weigh 50 pounds.

I'd never drink milk after or even on the expiration date. I just wouldn't.

I'm paranoid about milk, fresh juices, bread and meats.
Anything like pasta or whatever, I'll eat, unless it looks wayyyy off.

Extremely paranoid. Anything that's on or past it's expiry date is not going into my mouth.
I'll take something out of the fridge, and if it's on or a day past the expiry date I'll go to throw it away, but my parents are always saying that's it's still okay. Crazy.

I really don't think about expiration dates much. If there's something in the house with an expiration date that's in the near future, like milk, we usually use it up pretty quickly, so it doesn't matter.

If it has no mold or if it dont smell funny, I will eat it.

I might go as far as consuming food on the day it's supposed to have gone off, with the exception of milk *shudders* We've all taken a large gulp of sour milk without realising it's gone off, that's why I'm extra careful nowdays.

Nah. Unless it's something obviously revolting like milk, I usually still eat it if it's only expired by a few days.

i wont eat anything if its the day thats printed on the item.

Though my mom tries to convince me its still good. like the blue cheese dressing in the back of the fridge that has litterally been there for 3 years.. She tried to convince me it was edible without health risks...

If it has a use by date its past I will definetly not touch it however if it's just a 'best before' recommendation like on chocolate then I'll eat chocolate with no qualms thats like a year past that.

I don't even look at dates.

Generally, if it's the right colour and texture, I'll eat it.

If it smells okay, I'll drink it. (There are exceptions to this rule. One day whilst my parents were abroad, I was performing the same old "smell the milk" routine, and it was off. I had just woken up. I was not in the mood to get dressed and walk in the freezing cold to buy more milk. I drank it anyway. It wasn't great. It was pretty fucking terrible. But I survived to tell the tale)

Pasta / Rice are the two of the biggest things to worry about as they hold alot of deadly bacteria if they aren't stored properly once cooked. I also never risk it with dairy.

My boyfriend is paranoid, last weekend he bought something from the supermarket, I can't remember what it was and he saw that the expiry date was for the day after he bought it, he freaked out and threw it in the bin, he refused to consume it the day before it expired.

I'm exactly the same as you, I hate it when food has expired. My mum gets annoyed with me when I say I won't eat it - she always tells me it's fine.

Best Before dates are different. They're there to let the shops/supermarkets know to get rid of it so it doesn't sit on the shelf forever. It's more like a recommended date, but it doesn't exactly matter sometimes if the date is old.

haha...being paranoid of food

that's saying that you are afraid that while you are in the shower, your expired milk bottle will come up from behind with a knife and cap you.

hahahahaha

Have a nice day.

I dont check dates for the most part when they are at the house with the exception of milk because Ive had some bad milk numerous times. If Im shopping I do check dates because I work at a grocery store and know sometimes, shit just doesnt get thrown out. I dont go cycling through for the latest date I can find, just to make sure it's still good.

Not really, unless it smells or looks bad.
I've been known to use milk in coffee 1-2 days past its use by date occasionally.

I'm paranoid of most things. Especially dairy. I won't drink milk a minute after it's expiry time. Yes, it is by the minute - Don't believe me, check.

Haha, I've noticed the times on food. I find it pretty hilarious. If I drink this milk at 10.59, it's ok, if I drink it at 11.01 however that's a different story. :eek2:

I'm lucky I don't drink milk, so I don't have to go through the trouble with it expiring so often.

FireGuardian

It's weird, food expiry dates are the only things I'm NOT paranoid about. That does have a tendency to cause problems...I'll eat or drink something and feel sick after it because it was past expiry.
