I really want to see this movie. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllanhaal are great. I'm just a little pissed off, because I live in a small town, and it's not playing in any local theatres. So, basically, I have to wait until it comes out on video.

So, all I need to know is... Who has seen it?

Do they... Do anything? :shifty: Rawr.

i reviewed it for the paper i work for. here's the deal-

The film isnt that good, it simply rides on the fact that it's about gay cowboys, so unless you're one of those annoying people who only cares how "provocative" a film is, as opposed to the film itself, then you might enjoy it. Frankly i don't care about two gay guys, it's none of my business, and if they want to make out, fuck or get married, god bless 'em. most gay guys i know think this movie is just another Queer Eye For The Straight Guy. percieving gay culture from a straight, but politically correct Pov and playing it out for the whole world to see, regardless of what actual gay people think of it. we live in a delicate time for gays. fundamentalism from all major religions is on the rise, and with the gay marriage issue rising in the headlines, the last thing anyone needs right this moment is a movie about gay cowboys. the intention of this film isnt "a love story, regardless of sex" or "a meditation on what it means to have a grave secret in an oppresive culture" the intention is "fuck you southern united states! hollywood knows better! hahahahaha!!" Well fuck you hollywood. you've made a mediocre film, and fooled everyone into thinking its a masterpiece. Bravo.

It's not the 'Gay Cowboy Movie' It's a love story. I've seen it. I found Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger rather bland but there wifes were more intresting and kept me awake. It was a good movie but I wouldn't call it a great one.

It does come across that way...

But I liked it. Maybe not being a gay man my opinion doesn't count, but I did like it. It's not the BEST movie I've ever seen, but it did make me cry (and I'm not THAT sappy).

It is at least a little more than just a movie about gay cowboys. It's a tragic love story, they love each other but can't be together and there's just a few moments in the movie where they don't even talk that are really powerful and emotional.

Actually the short story it's based on expresses that whole side of it a lot better than the movie. That may be why I liked it, because I read the story first.

Also Heath Ledger can't hold an American accent to save his life. Every movie I've seen of his (and I think I've seen them all) where he's American, there's always moments where his Australian accent comes through even slightly. Kind of annoying sometimes, but also funny.

the whole "they want to love eachother but can't" theme is so played out, and has been for a while, in much better movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon or Oldboy. the only new thing this movie brings to the table is Donnie Darko making out with Heath Ledger.i dont care, and when the world finally moves on to more important issues than two guys wanting to fuck, niether will anyone else.

i'd also like to note that the short story was written by a straight woman. Food for thought.

Just because you're not something, in this case a gay male, doesn't mean you can't research or empathize and write that thing (gay men) well. Food for thought.

Do you really want to know?

Spoiler Below Because I Can't Resist.

no they don't. But Heath's character ends up divorced and single. And Jake's dies. And then there's this heartbreaking scene at the end where he goes to Jake's parents' house and goes into his old room and finds a shirt he thought he'd lost on the mountain and keeps it and holy crap if that doesn't move you, you're dead inside.
