That depends on many different factors (body weight, activity level, age, etc...), but for an average teenage girl, you are probably looking at around 2000 calories per day. Keep in mind that there are some strings attached as well (i.e. calories you obtain from fat should be a fairly low percentage value), but that's only if you want to get real nitpicky.

2,000 is too much.2,000 and over is how much a man should eat.
Around 1,600 of you don't want to get heavier.Below 1,500 if you want to lose weight.

It's about 1800 for guys and about 1200 for girls I think.

I eat about 2500 calories a day I think and I'm 12 stone and that's overweigfh for someone my age and height. In my opinion eat you only live once, and if you wanna eat something, then eat it, life is too short to be worrying about numbers in my opinion.

For girls between 12-18 you're supposed to get 2400 a day. For boys in that age group it's 2600.

I was going to post something but this seems to have been answered, I just felt like adding one to my total.

There is no set amount of calories you should be eating. Everyone has different calorie needs, for example, i eat well over 6000 calories in a day, possibly closer to 9000, while someone else might only need something like 1600 calories.

I feel like I'm gonna throw up.....wayyy too much. I used to eat that much when I had a growth spurt and i stayed skinny. once i stopped growing i continued eating around 2000 and the fat was packing on. in order for me to stay thin i have to eat no higher than 1500 a day if i'm not doing any physical activity. No wonder everyone's getting fat. holy shit

I know for certain that 14 year old girls need 1845 calories a day, but that's all I know. But what I tend to do is have two small meals of around 250-400 calories and one big meal, and that way I figure I can't really have too much, unless I reeeeeeeeeally pig out. Which I sometimes do, but only occasionally, so it 's not really a problem. =)

i tend to gain weight when i eat 3 square meals instead of grazing throughout the day. it's called the Thermal Effect - I get all my information from bodybuilders.

Damn, another person saying under 1000 calories. Unfortunately it looks like the other one wasn't a joke.

That's because people don't realize that eating under a thousand calories bolsters your metabolism, causing much of it to shut down. (Also, if you enter "starvation-mode" your body will start to digest its own tissue, decreasing the size of your major organs. Extended starvation of 8 to 12 weeks will result in death.)

Anyway.
The way to calculate the basic amount of calories will burn for just daily routing (breathing, pumping blood, etc.) is called your Basal Metabolic Rate.
Take your weight in pounds, divide by 2.2, and multiply by 24.
If your weight is in kilograms then simply multiply by 24.
(Keep in mind this is just a base. Every step you take, for example, burns calories which your BMR does not account for. This should be approximatley 80% of your total calories for a day.)

According to my College Chemistry Course the Avg. Daily Intake for a woman age 15 to 18 weighing 120 lbs. with an average height of 64 in. should consume 2200 calories a day to maintain weight. This is under the assumption that you are also getting a moderate amount of exercise.

Keep in mind that not just calories matter, however. Different foods are digested by the body for different purpose and used in different ways.
