I know absolutely nothing about them, but think I should probably be taking one, at least some of the time.

Is it safe to take them sporadically?

Is there any kind in particular I should be taking? (I'm mostly concerned about calcium, plus I sometimes go a few days or weeks without eating meat).

Maybe it's silly to be asking about it here, but I really really reaaaaaally don't like going to the doctor, so I'd rather just snoop around the Internet for answers. :happysad:

I take vitamins, and other supplements, on a daily basis. I don't know if it really has anything to do with it, but I think it certainly helps the fact that I rarely get sick.

As far as I know, it's perfectly safe to take them sporadically, although probably not as effective as taking them regularly. If you feel you're not getting all the vitamins you need through the foods you eat, then I'm inclined to say that it's better that you take a multivitamin some of the time rather than none of the time. Just don't double-up the doses because you missed a day or two. Too much of certain vitamins are not good for you either. Just follow the suggested dosage on the label. Try to make it a habit after a the meal of your choice. Some people will suggest that it's best to take your vitamins at the same time each day. Although it's probably true to a certain extent, I don't feel it's absolutely necessary.

Get yourself a general multivitamin. Check the label and compare the vitamin content of each brand. There's probably not going to be too much variation. They have multivitamins that are targetted towards men or women as well, each containing more of the ingredients that are supposedly beneficial to the designated sex. If you're mostly concerned with calcium, most multivitamins aren't high on calcium. You might want to consider taking a calcium supplement along with the multivitamin.

I take a general multivitamin, iron supplement pill and calcium supplement pill.

Like BooRadley said, it's fine to take it sporadically however it wouldn't be as effective.
