But it is damn classy.
How the hell is there not a thread about one of the greatest movies of all times
because a clockwork orange is kubricks second worst movie, overrated and shallow. nothing but tactless pretencious bullshit with no real point. even the author of the book hates the film and the novel.
Johnny_Pissoff
11-29-2005, 07:25 PM
fuck no its not his second worst movie, more like his second best or maybe even best.
I mean 2001 and eyes wide shut, are bullshit with no point

Go to HMV or Virgin or any good shop and they will have Clockwork Orange, I think it's even on sale in HMV or Virgin...
Better yet go and buy Eternal Sunshine for £7, you know it makes sense...

okay first of just because you didnt understand 2001 doesnt mean it isnt brilliant. its probably one of his best endeavors, it just happened to go over everyones head because the standard kubrick fan wouldnt pick up the profound if it hit them in the head with a brick. A Clockwork Oranges popularity is a prime example of what i'm talking about. Kubricks best films are Dr. Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket and 2001. A Clockwork orange is tripe, its the madonna of film. all show and no go.

This is totally pointless to the thread but I can't be arsed to make a whole new one just to say that Picture by Our Lady Peace would fit well with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Anyway I just had to say it...

I bought the film in my local HMV. Burghess didn't hate the film but he wishes he was more recognised for his later works and CWO has sort of cast a shadow over his career especially from the publicity it got from Kubick's film. It WAS banned until quite recently actually.

2000 was the first time it was distributed in the UK.

That recent? Mad... I can't see why, there are movies more violent and if it's the rape scene, there's a worse one in that french film Irreversable - the only time a film really made me uncomfortable from watching it - the scene seems to go on forever.

2001 is just boring bullshit. I do agree that full metal jacket and dr. strangelove are some of his best, the shining was good too. But Clockwrok orange just stands in a category all its own

If you choose A Clockwork Orange over 2001, you do not appreciate Kubrick.

I really liked that movie. The first time I watched that movie was like 2 years ago and my friends dad called us down saying how it was a classic. Well lets just say it scared my friend, she didn't want to sleep that night because we watched it just before we were suppose to go to bed.
But I like it, and my brother bought it a while ago, and we've watched it twice. Everytime I hear the song "Singing in The Rain", I think of that movie.

A Clockwork Orange is my favourite movie. I still haven't gotten around to reading the book though.
Full Metal Jacket is also very good. 2001 just never really floated my boat.

Not my kind of film really.
when i hear singin in the rain i want to kick stuff
wow dude, you're so badass, can we be friends? 'cause kicking stuff and emulating Alex Delarge is just, Wow, brilliance, you reeeaaally understood the movie didnt you?
fucking moron.
people like you delegitemize those who like ACO and are inteligent people. while i don't like the film, there are people who i respect who enjoyed it, but people like you who watch the film and emulate Delarge completely miss the point of the film, (what little point there is).
you're a retard. no more talk from you.
and by the way, 2001 was only boring if you didnt get it, and if you didnt get ACO which you obviously didnt, 2001 is miles above your head, so don't bother.

Going off topic for a second, Pakx have you ever strayed onto the IMDB Fight Club boards?

Infested with Space Monkeys, they claim they began to rid the boards of trolls but they are now the bain of the boards. The only opinion permitted is theirs. It's hell when you just want to talk about the film...

Yeah i love that movie. so much so that i even read the book. But if all you got out of the movie is the violent aspect then i'd say you wasted your time. The murders and rapes were barely the first half of the movie. I thought it was more about punishment fitting the crime and political expediency but i guess that is lost on some people.

A Clockwork Organge is a fantastic film, and I did read the book before I saw the film.
About the ban :
-Yes, it was banned, at the request of Stanley Kubrick it was not released on video or DVD until his death.
In the United Kingdom the sexual violence in the film was considered extreme at the time, with the press blaming the influence of the film for an attack on a homeless person. It was widely believed that Kubrick's annoyance at this response led to him withdrawing the film from distribution in the United Kingdom. However, in a television documentary made after Kubrick's death, his widow Christiane confirmed rumours that Kubrick had withdrawn A Clockwork Orange from United Kingdom distribution on police advice after threats were made against Kubrick and his family. (The source of the threats was not discussed.) That Warner Bros. acceded to Kubrick's request to withdraw the film is an indication of the remarkable relationship Kubrick had with the studio, particularly the executive Terry Semel. Whatever the reason for the film's withdrawal, it could not easily be seen in the United Kingdom for some 27 years, until after Kubrick's death.
Yes it's graphic, but it's a fucking spectacular film. Kubrick is a God of filmmaking and ACO remains in my top 10 films and has done for a very long time
