Well, I just saw it...Basicly its jam packed with ***s, lesbos, drag-queens, etc...The crap of America. It's a musical, and a crappy one at that. The songs are annoying as anything, and the gays arent just gay, they are VERY gay. The lesbian stripper is ugly as hell, and the big twist of the movie...The whole gang has AIDS...The story line...well...it didnt exist, and I prayed for a decent ending...which didn't happen. I thought it was finaly over at one point...yet I was wrong again. It droned on for another hour but there was nothing left to say, not that there ever was. It takes place in the trashy part of NewYork, so of course there's a bunch of drunk hobos walking around. Then Angel comes into play. He seems pretty cool at first, until the ugly ass stripper dressed as santa takes off her wig, and BOOM...its him...and hes gay, and he has AIDS, and he dies in the arms of ICE-T's charicter who is the biggest flamer I have ever seen. (they become a gay couple in the movie) Then after the aparent, yet not, ending, they keep mumbling about all the lessons Angel had tought them, though they only knew him for about a week or so before he died. Then of course it ends with the cheesiest line ever..."I saw the light, but Angel said to turn back..." As for the audiance...Those who weren't sleeping left...I had to stay awake though, because I had to write a review for work. Anyway...thumbs down on this one...don't waste your money.

Jesus fucking Christ, you are actually the BIGGEST TROLL EVER. I can't believe you think Aaron has you making goddamn buttons for him.

Anyway, I see your homophobia (not that I'm a big proponent of gay rights and shit, I just think that this troll has a stupid reason to go criticizing this movie) and raise you a "please go hang yourself by the neck until you cease to live!"

I totally agree, Emesis. To the OP, please do go die ASAP. We don't need your hatred in this world, especially not when there's already so much hatred in the world already.

EDIT: Oh, and I personally LOVED "Rent." Really gave you a good look at what life was like for some disadvantaged people in the late '80s. And it opened my (still-naive) eyes to the horrible, sad truth of AIDS and intravenous drug usage. An extremely sad, but extremely good, movie.

Why'd you see it if you're so against homosexuality?

Obviously you are extremely ignorant of a lot of things.

1. What the fuck? Very gay? Until now, I was totally unaware there were DEGREES of homosexuality. Let me guess, there is mildly gay, kind of, kind not gay, moderately gay, and very gay? Would it have made you feel better if they just held hands and kissed each other on the cheek? It might surprise to hear a lot of people complained that the movie desexualized Collins and Angel's relationship, but I guess if that hadn't, then you would have been complaining that this movie was ultra-super-mega gay, right? You were probably one of the idiots at my theater who were screaming "He's GAY" at the scream or snickered everytime they kissed. I mean, how could you not know there would be homosexuality in this movie?

2. There was no lesbian stripper in this movie, so I have no idea which girl you are talking about. If your talking about Mimi, then you must be blind, because she was gorgeous.

3. The fact that they all (well, at least four of them) had HIV was not a "twist" in the movie. There was no twist in this movie. Don't look for a twist in this movie.

4. I'm confused. You didn't know that it was Angel in the santa suit in wig? How could you not know? And it perturbs me that the fact that she/he is gay and has HIV would ruin the character for you.

5. From your post, I can tell you weren't paying attention to the movie. PAY ATTENTION TO THE TIMELINE. OKAY. You said they only knew Angel for a week. WRONG. Everyone met Angel around Christmas. When Mimi gets up for the eulogy at her/his funeral, she says something to the extent of "It was right that Angel died on Halloween, because it was her favorite holiday." Therefore anyone with basic math skills can concur that they all knew Angel and each other for a little under a year.

I find it sad that you had to write a review for work, but you were obviously so biased that you couldn't see past the homosexuality to get basic facts right.

I will agree with you on some parts though, I did think that the almost death scene with Mimi was cheesy, and that the movie could have ended about thirty minutes early. But I still think it was a fantastic movie.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I can't believe the shit that was posted. RENT is one of the best grossing musicals of all time, but aparently all the people who paid 50+ dollars for tickets on broadway were wrong, and some jackass who went to his local cinema, and payed $8 for a ticket is right. First, we'll adress the issue of the homosexuality in the movie. Compared to the aforementioned play, that was incredibly successful, the movie showed almost none of Collins and Angel's sexual relationship,(or Maureen and Joann's). In the play Angel dies in a song called "Contact" which is just a song about sex, with the actors all feinging sex onstage. This song serves as a explanation for maureen and joann's break up, as well as Angel's death. Next the AIDS, only Benny, Collins, Angel,Roger, and Mimi have AIDS(maybe Muffy too). The ending was taken directly from the musical. Its not really that Mimi saw Angel, but that in Mimi's state she has a strong fever, and probably fever dreams. She knows she is dying of AIDS, and imidiately thinks of her friend who died 2 months earlier of the same disease. This was a fantastic film adaptation to the incredible stage musical, and anyone who doesn't apreciate the amazing story line of this group of friends struggling through life, and trying to stick together should not even bother to post, because you'll just make an ass of yourself.

I loved the movie. It was simply amazing. I loved how it dealt with problems that Americans are dealing with today. All the actors played their characters soo well. All I can say is A M A Z I N G. So what if there were "very gay" people in it. Believe it or not, there are actually people out there like that. I loved the movie I want to see it again. It made me laugh and cry. Overall, it was great.

Take back the Tonys! Take back the Oscar predictions! Take back the millions of dollars earned! The homophobes don't like it!

You are a narrow-minded uncultured individual and it pains me to think that you represent the upcoming generation.

I loved it. I've seen if four times since it opened.
Oh and threadstarter? The reason you didn't catch on to the storyline is because you don't have a heart or anything resembling one. What a pity. :)

I agree with the last couple people. I really liked Rent... but I'm a musical person, so that wasn't a surprise to me. I saw it twice... mostly because I was outnumbered in votes the second time, but I didn't mind. I also saw the actual broadway version (okay, now I sound like a freak but I swear I'm not lol) and when I first saw it, I really didn't care for the songs. They kinda had to grow on me. The only ones I liked the first time around were "take me or leave me" and "le vie boheme". Um yeah, so I'm pro-Rent!

I loved Rent! It is the best movie i have seen in theatures in a long time. The music was awesome (i especially loved the bohemiem and the take me out songs) and the story was just so interesting. It was good to see the real effects of aids and to see how drugs can effect you as well. I went and saw it with some of my friends and they kinda cringed(sp?) when Angel and Collins kissed but i just thought it was so sweet and it was so sad when he died. We all were crying! The only part that i thought was stupid was the Mimi almost dying and then suddenly sitting up and singing with all her heart. I so want to see it n Broadway!

I am a big fan of musicals- but I hated Rent w/ a huge passion- Not because of the gays.. or the aids or the fact that it had 876 songs.. but because.. it was HORRIBLE.. and that's my honest opinion.. EVERYONE.. that I have talked to about the movie... feels the same.. except for one person.. who no offense... is gay... big suprise... but yea.. Movie sucked ass.. I would rather die than watch another second of that SHIT of a movie
