I am going to the Australian Premiere of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire tomorrow. Any of you lucky, lucky americans seen it yet? Can't wait to see Cedric (Robert Pattinson) though he's hot...

How was it if you have?

The moie was awesome, and in my opinion, HArry( daniel radcliffe) is SOOO much hotter than cedric, but thats my opinion, anyways. The movies wasa bloody and magical. He gets stronger and faces more dark magic. It was 2 thumbs up :goodjob:, tottaly spectacular! HARRY ROX THE WORLD!

The first half hour or so was very disorganized - it just quickly went from one thing to the next. If you've read the book you won't have a problem keeping up with it though. Obviously with a 700-some page book everything cannot be included in the film, but I thought they did a good job condensing it. With the first three films there were instances where it just kind of dragged along and I found myself thinking "Is it almost over yet?" -- that wasn't the case at all with GoF - it was very fast paced and almost seemed to be over too quickly. It looked amazing as well - Hogwarts, the dragon, and Harry and Cedric definitely add to the visual splendor. Overall, it was definitely worth my $6 and my getting lost on the way to the theatre.

As a movie by itself (if you didn't read the book) it was great. I agree with Halcyon, the first half hour didn't run as smoothly as it could have.
But, because the movie goes along with the book, and the book was rather long, they couldn't put every little detail into it. Also, they re-wrote some parts to make it more entertaining. Which was okay, because it wasn't anything too important.
The first time I watched it I found myself comparing it to the book. But the second time I could enjoy it for what it really was.

I went and saw it today and it was AWESOME! Cedric was way hotter in the movie! But the ending was so sad, in the book it is sad but the movie just made it more real. Hermione's Yule Ball dress was amazing and it was actually funny in parts. Daniel Radcliffe did an awesome job, way better than last movie and was hotter too. It got really tense in the first task and the World Cup Scenes were awesome. I wish you saw them play quidditch though...

yea hp4 sucked.. they left too much stuff out

^ only the stuff that wasn't important to the plot, like S.P.E.W. If they kept everything it would be 7 hours long... I reckon they did a good job, considering its such a long book.

Its a brilliant film, they made it to perfection in my opinion as a book reader of Harry Potter.

It was really good, but there could have been mroe details. I know they were pressed for time, but it was a great movie nontheless. I was just waiting for a sphynx and where was SPEW?

And there hasn't been a Peeves at all.

The books are always better than the movies. Like farkin_joaquin said, if they kept all the little, unimportant details in the movie would be too long. Although, I was a bit disapointed that they didn't include Winky (or any house elves for that matter) into the plot. They way I see it, they need to put in at least Kreater for the next movie because he's important to the plot.
Back to the moive in question, I felt they took out complicated parts, such as the whole bit about Barty Crouch Jr. switching with his mother to get out of Azkaban, and how Barty Crouch kept his son hidden, then this son bacame stronger, then killed his father. I felt that was an important part, but they left it out so the younger audience wouldn't get confused.
I know for the next movie they're going to have to take out a lot of stuff and it won't be very smooth transitions from chapter to chapter, scene to scene.

They had to keep it somple though. If they had every detail it would have been a 17 hour film, they had to cut every part of it leaving the stuff that only involved Harry. That's what the director himself said in this behind the scenes tv shows they showed over here.

It was a decent film, they could have left more of the original material in but it was well rounded all things considered.
As a side note Clémence Poésy is fine and Rons outfit for the yule ball is pimp.

I was looking forward to seeing the Blast-ended Screwts, a Sphinx and the Quiddich world cup and was disappointed not the see them. I think they left too much out but i'm getting used to it. The book is better, obviously but if you just want the bare facts with no details see the movie. Overall it was a good movie I just wish they would have at least included the part about Rita Skeeter getting caught.

It was a much better movie than the last one (which was quite boring, in my opinion). There's much more happening. I'm not a Harry Potter fan but I've read all the books for the sake of it, and the last one was such a dissapointment. I was actually glad to have finished reading it, since it dragged on so much.

Exactly, Im looking forward to seeing the movie, but of course the books are going to be better. Books are always better than their movies. I have rarely, if ever, seen a movie that is better than the book it was based off of. Plus, you'd have to leave an incredible amount out, it would honestly be a 15 hour movie if everything was done with great detail. Worth $6 to watch though.

I really enjoyed the movie. I still loved Ron's reaction when Mrs. McGonagall told him to put his hands on her hips. That was a great piece of acting. I thought leaving Winky and Dobby out was a little dumb since they did have a big part in the books, even though I can't stand them.

Saw it Dec 3rd.

I thought it was fast paced and action packed--and also very funny (which was nice to see them having fun with the characters etc now). Rickman(Snape) has great comedic timing. Fred and George practically stole each scene they were in, And I liked the Patil sisters-they can convey exasperation and disgust quite well, nonverbally.

but.

I keep coming back to but. I do know that books and screenplays have different demands placed upon them, so that no movie is going to include all the plot details of a book.

But.

I do not like the new Dumbledore. I thought with the last movie, well, it's a change, and and adjustment--give him and it time. I detect no "lilt" in his voice this time at all--I also do not detect any wryness, irony, rue or even sarcasm. But the actor (name escapes me at the moment) sure can overact.

Couple of things: the ballroom scene. It is building well--with the nice touchs the Rowling had put in....and then Hermione basically goes off her nut. And then chastises the boys to go to bed! Huh? It jarred--took me right out of the movie.

And the maze. After they had done the dragons and the lake so well--did they just give up with the maze? How hard is a CG Sphinx to conjure up? Are they union?

The graveyard scene was done so well -
Voldemort's rise was quite well done--Finnes is gonna be great as HWMNBN. And the Deatheaters at the World Cup were frightening and well done. I also liked the interpretation of the Priori Incantatum (sp?). When I read the book it didn’t bother me so much when Cedric died, but in the movie you really get to like him and when they're transported back to the stadium and everyone is cheering while Harry screams almost had me crying. The scene really shows you, as the movies so often somehow don't, what film can give you that the books can't. The slowly dawning horror on the faces of the watching spectators; Fleur's sudden scream, Amos' cheering breaking down into heartbreak, and above all a real look at Harry from outside himself - he's so small, so shattered and broken-down, yet so brave.

But the end of the movie was disjointed and weak, IMO. Hermione makes an awkward statement about how everything has changed, now. But her tone and her expression confounded me--was she referring to their sexual developement, their academics or Voldemort being back? She says it so happily--it is really awkward and I liked Harry's dry response. Then there are about 10 minutes of watching Beauxbatons carriage fly away.

Huh?

No Triwizard earnings-no Cedric's mother (why do movies always cut the mother? sorry, tangent).

All that said--I am so glad it is still the main three, as well as Maggie Smith et al. And I loved that Neville got some undercurrents to his character. And overall, I did like the movie.

7/10. ;)
