story so far

ok, so i've been watching sg1 from the ver begining and own seasons 1-7 on dvd. i have been desperately avoiding season 8 until it's box set release as it's a pain in the ass trying to keep up with a series on tv (you always end up missing one)

what i was wondering is stargate atlantis any good? i've never seen it and was just hoping someone could give me the jist of it. what kind of stuff do they do? that kinda thing.

There are plenty out there who don't care for Atlantis as much...me, I've found it pretty good so far. The second season's proven to be very entertaining. As for the gist of it, basically, a new team has gone to explore the homeworld of the lost city of Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy. It was a city build by the ancients, but abandoned some time ago. Most of the epsodes so far have been similar to the earlier seasons of SG-1 when it was a lot more episodic. They explore new worlds in that galaxy, while at the same time also exploring the city of Atlantis, which has lost the majority of its power (runs on a ZPM, the only one they had was used up getting there...so they're also searching worlds for another one of those too.) As they're exploring one world, the team accidently wakes up the enemy of the Ancients, the Wraith, who had been in hibernation since the Ancients had left the Pegasus Galaxy. The Wraith feed on the life force of people, which makes them fairly dangerous. Their feeding grounds aren't as plentiful as they once were, and when the new team stumbles upon them, the Wraith learn of Earth...a very, very rich feeding ground...and try anything possible to find the location of Earth.

Much like SG-1 there's plenty of factors in there. The dialogue is just as well written and witty as SG-1's and the episode plots are just as entertaining. The only real compication I see is that you have to get used to watching a different team. But don't worry, Major John Sheppard has a sense of humor much like O'Neill's, Lt. Aiden Ford has another great sense of humor, he and Sheppard play off of each other well, Dr. Rodney McKay may be whiney, but his lines are usually hysterical, Dr Elizabeth Weir's (same character, different actress from the 7th season of SG-1) learning things as she goes and is as effective a leader as Hammond, Dr. Carson Beckett is a lot like the wuss James Spader portrays Daniel Jackson as in the Stargate movie, and while I don't find his as likable as Daniel, he's still a good character nonetheless. And this finally brings me to Teyla, she fullfills a role much like Teal'c as a warrior they meet on the first world they come to....except she's a lot less stiff, much less taciturn, but has some equally as amusing lines as Teal'c.

This is just my rundown, so I hope it helps...if you want to know more check out the show's site: http://www.stargateatlantis.com/
