Is there anyone here into foreign films? I've got a list of movies people should watch:

La Grande Seduction (Canada)
Run Lola Run (Germany)
Shall We Dance (Japan)
Amelie (France)
Like Water For Chocolate (Mexico)

Anyone seen any of these? What do you think of them?

I've seen Run Lola Run and Amelie; liked them both very much.

More really good foreign films:

Swimming Pool (France / UK)
The Hole (UK)
I Capture the Castle (UK)
Eat Drink Man Woman (Taiwan)
Visitor Q (Japan)
City of God (Brazil)
The Crime of Father Amaro (Mexico)

Run Lola Run was excellent, I thought. I was disappointed with Franka Potente when she did some crap British 'horror'. I was hoping she'd get killed just because it was such an awful film.

The Hole, eh. I never liked it. It was just some teenagers in an enclosed space. It was Big Brother with bulimia and death. And the attempt at a twist was terrible, I thought.

Visitor Q, now that's what I'm talking about :D Excellent.

City Of God was also amazing.

But everyone should watch Takeshi Kitano and his movies. The best that he has written, directed and starred in (as well as edited, etc etc) is probably Hana-Bi. For all out greatness of starring in - Battle Royale. You should also go ahead and watch Ichi The Killer, which has no ties to Kitano at all, but is a superb piece of extreme cinema from Takashi Miike, starring Tadanobu Asano. Also from Takashi Miike, Audition and Gozu are very good films. (Japanese)

I also liked Y Tu Mama Tambien, mostly because of the way it was written, with the backstory for many people, and a future story for relatively minor characters, like the fisherman and his family. (Mexico)

For an excellent film from China, choose House Of Flying Daggers. Not only is it one of my favourite films, it also starts Xhang Xhiyi, which is good for males everywhere, in my opinion :P

M! Directed by Fritz Lang and starring Peter Lorre! Excellent black and white film from 1931. Oh, I can't beleive I almost forgot that. (Germany)

Infernal Affairs was also a very good film starring Andy Lau and Tony Leung. More excellence. And also a pretty strong sequel in Infernal Affairs II. The third was not to my liking (Hong Kong)

And last and least, this is in here for the gore only, Cannibal Ferox. I'm only counting it as a foreign film because it was directed by Umberto Lenzi, and he's Italian! (Italy/US)

City Of God (Brazil)
Y Tu Mama Tambien (Mexico)
Downfall (Germany)

I think City Of God is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is so vulgar and graphic but so unique and entertaining.

Y Tu Mama Tambien is good only if you watch the unrated version because that has graphic sex scenes that build the characters in ways that the American rating system believes is obscene.

Downfall is also great for its depiction of the horrors of one of the most evil men in history and has a spectacular performance by Bruno Ganz.

Of the French movies i would just like to say fuck them because i hate the French and everything they produce.

I haven't really seen many Asian films but have heard great things about them. Does anybody have a particular one they would like to recommend

I was beginning to think no one would reply...

The only asian movie I've seen is "Shall we Dance?" (yes, the same one that the americans remade). The original is way funnier.
And whats wrong with the French? They make great movies. Watch Amelie. It will change your life. Also watch Delicatessan. Its by the same director. So gruesome!

Some more excellent films are Dear Frankie (Scotland) and Goodbye Lenin (Germany).

There are also lots of great Canadian films (not really foriegn to me). I already mentioned La Grande Seduction (aka Seducing Doctor Lewis) This movie is hilarious!

I also thought Monsoon Wedding was good. Its an Indian film by the same director as Bend It Like Beckham. I secretly love Bollywood movies and I always watch them on Sunday afternoon on the Indian network.

Amen.

I love:
City of God (Brazil)
Amelie (France)
Pretty Devils (France)
He loves me, he loves me not (France)
Run Lola Run (Germany)
Autumn Spring (?)
Happinese of the Katakuris (Japan)
Chori Chori, Chupke Chupke (Indian musical!)

I've seen so many that I love, but those are all I can think of.
