Well, it seems that while you were 'gathering facts' about the goth scene you have come upon some inaccurate information. So I'm going to have to assume that you acquired false information from someone that doesn't know any better, or you're just making up your own sweeping generalizations. Either way, sweeting, you're just wrong.

While it wouldn't be outright wrong to say that most goths tend to dress in the stereotypical black clothing most of the time, there is no certain way of dress in the goth scene. Just because someone identifies themselves as goth doesn't mean that they are restricted to the color black. And not all goths wear corsets and velvet all the time. I myself dress EGL, but only on the weekends. During the week, I'll wear jeans and a t-shirt just like everyone else. I don't dress the way I do for the shock value, I do it because I like it. And that's pretty much the outlook throughout the whole scene. If that particular person likes wearing black, they'll wear it. But if they don't, they won't. There is no uniform.

Another common misconception that most people have about the goth scene is that it is centered around satanic worship. This could not be more untrue. The gothic scene is not, nor has ever been centered around any type of religion. I've met goths that are christian, wiccan, jewish, taoist, buddhist, satanist, atheist, agnostic and more.
