Can somebody tell me what the difference is? Also, anyone who has been in or bought a hair straightener at Shoppers Drug Mart....what kind is the best to buy? The ones I can think of off the top of my head are Conair, Vidal Sassoon, and this black one with an orange inside...which works best? IS the more expensive the straightener the better?

im a cosmetology student, they are the exact same thing and you wont get a decent one from a drug store, you should go to a supply house like sally's beauty or mally's or something like that. it will be more expensive the better it is. it does hurt your hair but if you are sure you want to use a heat protector you spray on before you start.

I got my favorite one from a drugstore, and it was Conair: Ceramic Technology or something like that. Ceramic is better. It was like 30 bucks. My stylist uses like a $375 one on my hair, but I will always love mine best. I would die without it. Who cares about damage, if u can look awesome. I use a leave in heat protecting conditioer before I blow dry and it helps.

Is there a difference? I didn't think so.
I have an Andrew Collinge ceramic one that I use every day. Trust me, if you had the same shitty hair that I do, you'd do the same. If I let it dry naturally it ends up in ringlets and looks really nice... until I brush it and it turns into a lion's mane. :slash:

i straighten my hair nearly everyday and mine's not that dry. If you have the ends trimmed regularly and use good conditioners and protection it wont dry out that bad

Are chemical straighteners really bad too? I would never have the time to use an iron straightener.

My hair's exactly like yours, and I hate it! I wish I had my strait hair back. (I actually used to have naturally strait hair until I had over six inches cut off.)

There really is no difference between a flat iron and a straitener. Personally, I've been using a curling iron to straiten my hair lately 'cause my mom broke my straitening iron. (I know, curling irons can cause more split ends) Just make sure that you use heat protectants for your hair because the heat from any kind of iron or blow dryer damages and dries out your hair, which dulls the shine. I use Paul Mitchel stuff for my hair and it helps a lot, especially since my hair is really dry to begin with from swimming.

Straightening your hair from time to time won't really damage it - its when you do it to an excess. I do it about once every two weeks or so, depending on the ocassion, and my hair is healthy as anything. Just make sure you hair gets lots of moisture and is shampooed and conditioned a lot. Also, I suggest a ceramic flat iron- they work better than ones with metal plates and the finished product is better. You can get really good ones that aren't really expensive at Wal-Mart. (I got a ceramic flat iron for $15 at Wal-Mart and it works beautifully and makes it really nice)

I have a conair one that SUKS ass, if you get a straightner, dont get one that has removable plates because then they dont heat as well
