Ok I saw Charlie and the Chocolate factory on Friday and again on Saturday. I have always been in love with the first movie, but I have to say they actually made the re-make better! Willy Wonka has so much more character in this one than the other. And the storyline was more clear. Do you agree/disagree? Why?
What was your favourite part? What disappointed you?
My favourite part was how they elaborated about Willy Wonka's life and extended the end of it more. And the songs, they managed to get rap, hip hop, pop and rock and roll in there. And synchronized swimming :eek2:
I was disappointed by the tunnel scene, that was my favourite scene in the old movie because of the creepy song. But Willy Wonka doesn't sing in this one! And I was also disappointed by the fact that the Oompa Loompa's weren't orange with green hair, they were like natives (and that they were all played by one person).
Here's a movie review about it: http://entertainment.sympatico.msn.ca/movies/articles/1240332.armx

I loved it WAY better then the first one. My favorite line was when they walked into the room and Willy Wonka goes "Everything in this room is etible (sp?) even me. But children this is what we call canibilism which is frowned upon in most society's" I was cracking up so hard. And the parents were just sitting there with this look.
I was dissapointed with the way the gobstoppers looked. They were just a ball, to plain.

Was there a scene where Willy Wonka (current one) walk into the camera and fell over? I was just asking.

He walks into the closed door of the glass elevator...twice.

Yeah the glass elevator thing was soo funny-- It never got old even after seeing it 4 times! And some of the things he says are just so random and hilarious, like the cannabalism thing. And the way he phrases things like saying "eatable" instead of "edible" it just gives it childlike charm.

I'm sure in the time that you wrote that you could have written a good paragraph normally. You're not cool.

:lmfao: I was laughing so hard when that happened. And he's all like I should really pay attention to where I park this thing.

I LOVED it! I thought it was waaaaay better than the Wilder version...I thought the ending was even better than the book. I liked how they extended it, and explained more of the backstory with Wonka. Yea, basically what everyone else has said. I thought the scenes where he ran into the elevator were HILARIOUS!! I also thougt that it was really funny when he kept telling Mike Teavee to stop mumbling...hahaha. I liked the canaballism thing too! Yea, I could go on and on about it...I thought it was wonderful. They did a great job...little Freddie Highmore was amazing! He's really something.

oh man it was so great. Johnny Depp was the best... i loved it when the kids were like tell him their names and he was like "Yeah, i dont care," it that voice. man i wanna go see it again with my friend. I love Tim Burton films tho... i read that johnny depp came up with the whole willy wonka character look.. the teeth and stuff... i cant wait for Corpse Bride since johnny depp did a voice over for that movie....

I was dissapointed with it. It was supposed to be based on the book more but there where so many different things. And the Willy Wonka in the book and Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka were sooo different.

Same, I mean it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen - I just didn't like it.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory had better sub-plots.

I loved this movie! I thought the way Johnny Depp played Willy Wonka was fantastic, and the kid who played Charlie is so adorable. I don't think there was anything about this movie that I didn't like. It was funny, and it was more true to the book than the 1971 version.

I havent seen the movie but have seen the preview and stills. (doesnt come out till september here)
I dont think violet beuregarde suits the part though, the original violet had brown hair and was kinda chubby :S

Have you ever seen Finding Neverland? That little boy played Peter and Johnny Depp played his father figure. They're incredible together in the movies, thats why he played Charlie.

I agree. This movie is nothing compared to the original. It's a movie all on it's own. They are tw completely different movies. I look at the original for the things I like about that and I can stil see things I like about the new one. Overall, I like the new one better though they are both outstanding movies.

I saw it Monday, and I'm still trying to decide weather I liked it or not. Basically, I liked it for a Tim Burton adapatation. I loved how it was uniquely his own. But like, I was talking to someone, and I think Gene Wilder played a much better Wonka over-all, but for a Burton film, he couldn't have picked a better Wonka than Johnny, does that make sense? I don't know. You just have to understand it's based on the book, not the original movie...so it has it's perks.

I know what you're saying. At first Tim Burton's Willy Wonka seemed almost emotionless and Gene Wilder's seemed so bright and colourful and cheerful compared to him. Like Burton's Willy Wonka seemed cold.. until you got to know him better. I liked Wilder's Willy Wonka better in that sense. Yeah, and Johnny Depp just seemed perfect for the part in that movie, but if they were trying to make it more like the original he wouldn't have fit the part of Wilder's Willy Wonka at all. I liked that it was more like the book, too. You just have to look at it in a certain way to truely appreciate it.

It all depends on how you see it. I too, was fighting with myself after I saw it. Like did I like it or hate it or just think it was okay? You kinda have to look past the creepiness and the strange songs to see that that's not what it's all about. You have to appreciate that they managed to get one song from almost every popular music genre, which they couldn't have done in the first. I concluded that if you look deeper, and not just what you see in the surface that I loved it! And at first Willy Wonka seemed very shallow but as the movie goes on he tranforms into this deep character, not to mention hilarious.
