hey well i've been going running/jogging like every other day for 20 min but recently i have been going for farther walks instead for about 20-30 mins. does jogging burn more calories? or does walking farther distences burn more calores? cuz some ppl say if u go jogging u have to jog farther to burn more calories and if u walk farther distances then u can burn more calories then jogging. is that true? well if someone could please help that's be great! thx. bye

If you jog for a certain distance then you will burn more calories than if you walked for the same distance, but if you walk for a greater distance than you can burn more calories that way.

Why not jog for a longer duration of time and burn even more calories?

Because most people have a limited amount of time to excercise in so the harder you train in that amount of time the more calories you will burn. For example, i could spend a whole day walking and probably burn more calories than if i jogged because i couldnt do that for as long, but it would hardly be practical to do so.

EDIT= If you train at a high intensity for a short period instead of a lower intensity for a longer period you have less of a chance of burning muscle mass. Also, if you do high intensity cardio, especially very intense cardio (e.g. sprints) it can actually build muscle (nowhere near the level you would get from weight training, but its still good), which will burn more energy even when you aren't doing anything.

Just do as much exercise as you can in the period of time, so go as hard as you can keep it up over how long you have to exercise.

If you really want to improve stamina wise and fitness/physique wise, I say do 2.4km in 14 minutes. 20 minutes is seriously slow.

Let's say you want to improve timing, then do 2 km in 15 minutes, then slowly reduce it to 12 minutes. You'll become very good.

If you want to improve distance, aim for 2.4km in 17 minutes. Then slowly try to complete 3km in 17 minutes. If you're able to do 3.2km in 17 minutes, you're one step closer to immortal.

HUH?

An ideal time would be an hour. But don't go vigorous for the whole hour.

To lose weight, an hour a day, any four days in a week. All those jazz about half an hour 3 times a week is just psychological consolation.

To really gain fitness/stamina, half an hour six times a week. Optimum exercise the whole half hour but any more times in a week and your knees will die.
