I have naturally slightly wavy hair and in about a month i'm going to cheer camp. we don't have time to straighten our hair every single day. so i was thinking maybe instead of having wavy hair (doesn't look good without maintenance) i could get a waved perm so my hair looks perfect without having to style it. i don't want to come out with an afro. i'm using the box kind cuz my mom's making me pay for it. had anyone tried it before?

Yes I am black and I get a box perm every month and It comes out just as good as the salon so go for it

I'd be kinda careful with the box perm. Unless you are experienced at it , it could totally turn out a mess. My mom's friend did my mom's hair once and it was so fried it looked so bad. What if you get it chemically straightened instead? I've never done it but it could make it easier for when you're at camp?

if you get a curly perm you still have to maintain it like your natural wavy hair so i dont think getting a perm will cut down on the time you spend with your hair

My god I wouldn't get any kind of perm if I were you.My sister got the spiral perm which sounds close to what you're talking about and she regrets it to this day.It ended up being dried out and still isn't back to the way it was before.It also may be because she had to get it done twice because she wasn't satisfied with the first one.I would just avoid it.

yeah the box can turn out bad sometimes but if u want then do it cuz its a good idea since ur gonne be in a cheer camp.

i straightened my hair at cheer camp but thats becuase my roomate took 1 1/2 hours to get ready every morning so i was awake anyways.

ok what you just said is really ignorant. i have seen white people with hair like a 'black person' and they are not mixed and i have seen black people who have hair like a "white person" and they werent mixed either you just need to know hair is hair and there is no great difference between the textures.

Well i got wavy hair...and when i cant straighten it i put moouse in it and a lil gel and its looks fine..not frizzy or like and "afro" as u said above....try it and see what happs...and puttin moouse and gel in ur hair doesnt take no time to do.

do not get a perm!!!!!!! they go loose after 2 days. My friend got one, and really regrets it now. It will make your hair really dry and frizzy, because a perm basically melts your hair and makes it wavy or curly. and what that person with the wal-mart avatar said about salon stuff vs. at home, i think it's true. because i went to get my hair highlighted once, and she used stuff i later saw at the drugstore. lol. so don't get a perm, if you want your waves to look better, put your hair up in 2 buns every night and then take them down. just do it close to your head, or else it will look weird. make sure you use spray gel too, so that it will hold the wave.
