Hey, If you are a vegitarian do you lose weight?!

The fact that you're asking a question about a major lifestyle change in a forum for fashion is exactly why I will never become a vegetarian.
But, generally speaking, vegetarians are thinner than non-vegetarians because they're eating less fat. But you can still be perfectly thin and healthy without going veg - instead of cutting out meat, how about you just eat healthier food?
If you want to lose weight, just eat better and excercise. Because vegetarian or not, if you're a lazy pig you're still not gonna lose weight. There's no meat in Twinkies and chips and chocolate.

Being a vegitarian has its pros and cons. For one eating animals is wrong, and meat doesnt digest it rots in your stomach. But with out meat you lack protien, but foods full of protien are eggs and penutbutter. But as for losing weight it all depends on your level of activity.

vegetarians dont eat meat for MORAL reasons, its not the latest diet.
i wouldnt think they do? i mean they eat HEAPS of grains and pastas and carbs, they are things that can be worse than the fat in meat.

If it wasn't 2:40 in the morning and I wasn't exhausted I'd launch into a rant about why PETA is wrong and terrorists and why you're an idiot for letting them brainwash you, but it IS 2:40, I AM exhausted, and I'm not going to do that.
But I am going to say meat DOES NOT rot in your stomach, and just because YOU don't like eating meat for PERSONAL moral reasons (or, moral reasons PETA told you are your own personal ones) does not make it irrefutably WRONG for EVERYONE.
Also, if MEAT is murder, what about eggs that have (had) the potential to hatch into chickens?

First of all Im glad it was 2:40, and thanks for your concern but no one has "brainwashed" me. Second meat DOES rot in your stomach, humans are not made to digest it. AND third, I dont eat eggs.
And I just dont understand why you would kill something just to eat it, expetaly when it has extreme health risks.

Vegetarians are not necessarily skinnier, I know someone who has been a vegetarian for years and she's bigger than average (but healthy). Vegans tend to lose a lot of weight when they change lifestyles because they are cutting out all saturated fat (fat that comes from animals).
However, losing weight should not be a motivating factor to go veggie, but if you are make sure to do it right, obtain your protein from beans, nuts, milk, and eggs if you're not going vegan.

meat rots in ur stomache-bullshit.it is broken down by the acids in your stomache.things only rot when there is bacteria or flys eggs(magots) in it.things rot after being left for a long time.if meat did rot in our stomache it would mean we would get food poisoning every time we ate it.if u eat something roten and it goes 2 ur stomache then u get il right.and if we had the bacteria in our stomaches to rot meat we would also be rather ill.i think u need 2 listen more in science.and yes if u wer a vegi u would probz b slightly slimmer but u would have 2 b careful 2 get al the protein ect which we normaly get from meats.protein can be found in nuts and seeds tho.if u do becum a vegi it is harder 2 stay healthy and i wudnt do it just 2 lose weight.good luck xx any more advice needed use my fashion beauty/fitness-i can help thread.xxxxxxx

There are no health risks to meat unless you don't cook it right - and that's not even risks from the meat itself so much as from the germs and bacteria it is exposed to by the way we pack & store it.
Human beings have been eating meat since... well, always. We are physically designed to eat and digest it. Where are you hearing we're not? It's on a PETA-sponsored site, isn't it. They're the only nutjobs I've ever heard spouting that crap.
and Venus and Adonis: Technically speaking, if you eat properly you're generally going to be skinnier and healthier than people who don't eat properly whether you eat meat or not. Everything in moderation people, none of this cut out this, eat more of that dieting shit.

I've been a vegetarian for about two years now, and although I did not LOSE weight, it stopped my gradual gaining of weight and has really, really helped me maintain my weight.
There are healthy and unhealthy ways of being a vegetarian-- in extreme cases when misused, vegetarianism may cause deficencies, so make sure you get all the information you need before you start a vegetarian diet. If you need any help or have any more questions or just want to talk, I'm here if you need me.

I've been a vegitarian for about 6 months now and it really does help. Somthing about it makes you feel better inside. It's really hard to explain, but it just makes everything "clearer" sort of.

If you have ever watched a decent food program EVEN OPRAH!, or a modern science magazine you would know meat does infact rot in your stomach. And WHY did early man eat meat, becuase thats all they had to servive, and I would understnad if that was the case today but we can infact live perfectly without meat. Fine its all about personal belief, and i dont care if you think vegitarians are brain washed by PETA or any one eles for that matter. and Mc Donalds is discusting along with alot of other fast food chains.

Bahahaha Celestial healing? New age bullshit. Any decent dietician will tell you meat is good for you. Fucking hippy.
I look at eating meat from the scientific perspective take the Cow it's niche is to provide food for others it has no other prupose I'm just doing what nature told me to.
Sacred Cows by the way make the best hamburgers.

u r talkin complete bullshit.MEAT DOESNT ROT IN YOUR BODY IF IT DID U WOULD BE VERY ILL,ALOT! if u eat something roten, meat or veg it would make u ill and u would have food poisoning.my dad is a doctor and my mum a beauty consultant,i have spoken to my dad and he sed if meat did rot in our stomache then it would KILL US!!!!i eat meat an im not dead.ALSO IT IS COMPLETE BOLLOX THAT PEOPLE THAT EAT MEAT GET ILL MORE.meat contains protein which is needed to re-build cells ect after youve been ill or cut urself or w/e.there are some things in meat which we need to maintain our imune system.U DONT EAT MEAT FINE BUT IT DOESNT MEAN EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG TO EAT IT,ITS A PERSONAL CHOICE AND PEOPLE SHOULDNT BE MADE TO FEEL BAD OR WRONG ABOUT IT.

People are going off subject, this thread isn't about the debate of vegetarianism.
In relation to the original question, generally yes. Eating no meat means you are cutting out a large proportion of fat from your diet but if you continue to eat large amounts of other fatty foods (cakes, sweets, fried food etc) it won't have much effect.

The acid in humans stomachs are 20 times weaker than the acid in "meat-eaters" in the wild. It takes humans 20 times longer to get it out of your stomach.

I've never seen Oprah oppose eating meat. But then, she makes me want to stab my eyes out, she's so fake. But moving right along.
Nobody said we can't survive without meat. Obviously the fact that people are vegetarians proves that. I just don't like people who push any beliefs on others, which by saying "meat rots in your stomach" (without actual substantial proof, just the very vague 'oh I saw it on tv', which means nothing, by the way) and "meat is murder" is basically that.
And I don't think all vegetarians are brainwashed by PETA, it just seems you're spouting a lot of their ideals and unfounded information, which makes it seem like you are. I have a good friend who's vegetarian, but hates PETA and everything they stand for. His reasoning for not eating meat is that he himself wouldn't be willing to go out and personally kill the animal, so he doesn't feel he has a right to eat it. But he - shockingly! - knows not everyone feels that way and doesn't give a crap when it's 3AM and we're jonesing for some Mickey D's. In fact... he's driven us to the drive-through more than once.

But we still do get it out.

I've been a vegetarian for about 6 or 7 months now, i'm doing it for a year, I'm not doing it for any special reason beside the fact that i'm proving that i can...but no one cares anyway back on topic...i haven't noticed any difference in weight, but i'm sure if you do it right and eat healthy foods not just junk, then you would probably lose weight. But if you eat a lot of meat right now then it might be hard to cut it out of your diet. it was hard for me at first.
pixie_punk
05-30-2005, 09:50 PM
Well that's why even I know that you don't just quit meat cold turkey (no pun intended), you do it in steps and phase it out of your diet gradually while phasing in alternatives so that it's easier, and you keep up nutrition and everything.
Oh, and dorksarecool? Maybe you should read before accusing people of not knowing what they're talking about. I didn't say every vegetarian was brainwashed by PETA, and I've even already said that I never said that. And two years ago I looked into becoming vegetarian, so I know what I'm talking about.
I say we eat vegetarians it'd solve everyone's problems.

Ok, i dont want to inflict my beliefs on people, and i also dont care for being flamed. But, to a certain extent, i think it does make me feel good to know that im helping save alot of animals lives. Helping, anyways. And also, i think this is a quote from someone, but i dont think of myself as important enough that i can justify killing animals everytime i get hungry.
But really, its everyones choice, and i have no less respect for those who eat meat or anything. Only for those who are close-minded and biased on the whole topic.
