I have a Windows XP and then volume won't work. There are pink, green and blue holes for the volume and in the pink its staticcy and in the other two there is not sound at all. when i try to play a song using windows media player it gives me this message: Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.....can someone help me make my volume work?

You should hve something plugged into those "holes".

The wires are usually color-coded to the "holes". Besides, is the computer new or used? Better yet, do you even have a sound card in your computer?

Did the sound work on the computer before? If it has worked before, you most likely will have to reinstall/update your sound card driver. If sound has never worked, the first thing you have to do, like mentioned above, is to make sure you have a sound card installed. It sounds as if you do since you have the color-coded inputs. Speakers are generally connected to the green "hole" but it could differ. You will still need to reinstall/update your sound card driver.

Did you install the drivers (properly)? Is it in the PCI/ISA slot fully? Was there any static discharge around the sound card?
