you know what i think? i think the media sucks! not only does it tells girls that they have to be perfect but it also causes a lot of eating disorders. why the hell are girls so obsessed with being a size 0? im a size 12-14 and im fine! i think that the better you feel about yourself, the better youll feel. :iagree:

I think that statement is very true. The media will be the death of humankind. It is growing larger and more influential over time. I do not disagree with a lot of things in the media but sometimes I get sick of seeing the same barbie-doll type girls and ripped, tanned guys. Don't they know that the normal people who are exposed to that are not like that! It only makes people feel bad bout themselves and, as you said, leads to eating disorders and pressures girls to have sex early. It makes me sad to think that all of these people are being brainwashed by the media. I mean we all are in some way or another. Sure I wear brand name stuff and do my hair in a way that is fashionable.. but I don't go out and gave my body away to some guy. I mean, there was once a time when you weren't allowed to say the word "pregnant" in public. Now look where we are!

i totally agree, and i too wear brand cloths, wear some make-up, and do my hair. but people are now trying to look just like celebritys. there is even a show on mtv called" i want a famous face" where they get plastic surgery and can damage there bodys. also there was a time where cloths had to cover all of your body. so in some respect america is making girls at younger ages go to extreme measures. i dont look down at celebritys like they are satin but i wish there were more normal looking girls in the magazine and on t.v.

this also totally relates to the "fat and pity" colom. i think that the self centered people in that board are like the media: they think that you have to look a certain way to be considered human.

Don't be angry with the media. You are simply shooting the messenger.

Oh just deal with it. If you were smart you wouldn't be significantly influenced by Mtv and J14.

Personally, the media hasn't really affected my self-image.
