I am going to try out Linux, I think. I ordered a bootable Knoppix CD and I am going to test it out some. Then when I am comfortable enough, I am going to try to talk my parents into letting me install Red Hat and make this computer Dual Boot. Woo.

i have a box running RedHat Linux 9, and it runs rather well and is easy to use for beginners.

be careful if your computer is extremely modern or has any special hardware to get the drivers on disk, because if its anything like modem/NIC then you'll have some difficulty downloading'm :)
also, 8X AGP Video cards or ones with dual-VGA can sometimes be a pain.

I found the site www.LinuxVirgins.com

It made it all sound pretty easy. I will hopefully not have too many problems...

linux isn't much of a gaming environment(nor should it be, in my opinion, giving it game support will make it more vulnerable to crashes and errors).
its better for servers and programming, and makes a decent general-use OS.
i haven't had any major problems with windows, it has more software, and games support it.

for example: i play Counter-Strike on windows, but if i were to run a highly-used server i would run it on linux.

yea.
macs are bad.
they boast the fastest personal computers, yet can never provide the benchmarks to support it.
has shotty support for many things, from hardware to games to software.
they throw out more untruthful propoganda than microsoft and all PC manufacturers combined.

mac people don't like me.

I'm not going to say anything bad about Macintosh. Their computers are fine for people who need that sort of thing. As far as Linux goes, my favorite Linux operating system is Red Hat because it is so easy to use and it's really popular, which means there are going to be more people trying to "improve" it. That also means that more people are going to try to find vulnerabilities in it.

My favorite UNIX operating system... basically just my favorite *nix OS, is FreeBSD. Nothing beats it. Even microsoft.com is powered by FBSD. :) (So is neonteen.com, by the way.)

Rock on, if you need any help, I can help ya. I helped Erik with a few things and his box is pretty cool.

*Tries to login to it now.*

I'd like to see someone beat erik's box:

ftp> get setup32.exe

Well, I know the Knoppix on the bootable CD. So far, so good. BUT... it freezes when I try to mount my harddrive :( But besides that, I am liking how it is.
